Meet Notes 2012 Season
10/24 vs Dartmouth: The girls cross country squad clinched their first outright league championship in more than 20 years with a big win over Dartmouth High School 16-45 at home. The team went undefeated in the OCL (4-0) and had a great over season with a record of 6-3.
Alicia Porter placed first in 20:57 on the Trojans’ 5K course as B-R swept the top four spots (new course record). She was followed by Carly Rettig (21:14), Kayla Porter (21:21) and Emily Bumpus (21:23). Kasey Fries (22:05) was sixth for the Trojans. We also celebrated the seniors who have led our team to victory this season through their support and encouragement and for being great role models for the rest of the team. We will miss you Carly, Renee, Kristen, Samantha, Ashley,Meghan and Colleen. Best of Luck in the future!! A special thanks to Colleen, our manager, who has been there for it all and helped things run so smoothly this season!!
10/10 vs Barnstable: In the second race of the season against Barnstable, BR widened the gap from last meet taking the top 7 spots. This was the first running on the new BR 5K course located on the BR campus and the course record was set by Alicia Porter with 21: 41. She was followed by the usual crew of top runners. Great races were also run by Samantha Martin, Renee Beneski and Kristen McGillvray. Despite the pouring rain, all of the girls ran great times under tough conditions making this a race to remember. Our next meet will be held at home against Dartmouth on October 24th. This will be our final OCL dual meet and will decide the regular season OCL title!
10/5 Tri Meet vs Bishop Stang and Durfee: Two more big wins for the Girls XC team. BR was led by Alicia Porter, Kayla Porter, Kasey Fries, Carly Rettig and Renee Beneski brining home a double BR victory. Great races were also run by some of the younger girls including Paige Tirrell, Katelyn Putt, and Jocelyn Sema, These girls have made great improvements over the past few weeks! All should be proud!
10/3 vs Dartmouth: The girls cross country team picked up there second OCL win crushing the Dartmouth Indians. The solid B-R girls took 10 of the top 11 spots, with only sixth place going to the competition. Finishing on top were Alicia Porter, Kayla Porter, with a close third by Carly Rettig and 4th by Emily Bumpus. Both Rettig and Bumpus continue to make improvements on there times as the season progresses. Rounding out the top five was Kasey Fries. Finishing out the top ten were Renee Beneski, Samantha Martin, freshman Kaitlin Putt, and Kristen Lowder pushing BR to a huge victory! Congrats Ladies!!
9/19 vs Barnstable: The girls picked up there first big win against Barnstable High School at Hathaways Pond in Barnstable beating Old Colony League rival Barnstable 18-41. Top finishers from BR were Alicia Porter (1st), Kayla Porter (2nd), Carly Rettig (4th) Emily Bumpus (5th) and Kasey Fries (6th). The girls really pulled together as a team today and went out with a winning spirit. Great race by all the girls on this challenging course!
9/12 vs Brockton: The girls cross country team dropped another close one to a tough Brockton team with a score of 26-29. This was the closest we have come to beating Brockton in the past few years. The top 5 finishers for BR were Kayla Porter in 3rd, Alicia Porter in 4th, Kasey Fries in 6th, Carly Rettig in 7th and Emily Bumpus in 9th. Other top finishers for the team were Renee Beneski, Samantha Martin, Jocelyn Semas and Kristen Lowder. The rest of the team continued to improve their times and are making great stridesas the season progresses. We will face our first OCL rival next week when we race Barnstable on Wednesday 9/19 at Home.
9/6 Quad Meet vs East Bridgewater, West Bridgewater and Coyle Cassidy: The B-R Girls Cross Country Team traveled to West Bridgewater H.S. on Thursday afternoon, and competed against Coyle and Cassidy, East Bridgewater, and West Bridgewater High Schools. The team put up a fight but was defeated by the East Bridgewater team with a close score of 27-29 and by the very talented West Bridgewater team with a score of 22-33. The Coyle and Cassidy team did not have enough runners to score the meet. The girls ran very well for this first meet and will be a force as the season progresses. Top 6 runners in the meet were Alicia Porter, Kayla Porter, Carly Rettig, Kasey Fries,Emily Bumpus and Renee Beneski as well as a great first race by freshman Jocelyn Semas. The girls will face the Brockton Boxers next on Wednesday 9/12/12.
