The B-R Girls Cross Country team traveled to Taunton on 11/1 for the Old Colony League Cross Country Championship. The Lady Trojans dominated the Girls JV race with Caitlyn Masterson and Mikala Murad placing first and second followed by Kristen Lowder, Taylor Lloyd and Ashley Aimone who placed 4th, 5th and 6th. The B-R varsity team placed 2nd overall with strong finishes from Alicia Porter, Kasey Fries and Kayla Porter. Despite the wind and cold, it was a great way to finish a wonderful season. We will miss the senior members of the team that made this year so memorable. Best wishes to Eva Bunszell, Kerrin Gillis, Alison Gordon, Olivia Larcom, Megan McDonald, Megan Moriarty, Mikala Murad and Nicole Nelson....Keep running girls, we love you!! See you next year!
10/25 vs Taunton: The Bridgewater-Raynham Girls Cross Country Team traveled to Taunton on 10/25 for a race that could have earned them OCL Champs but the girls came up just short of the win. Despite the very strong Taunton team, the Lady Trojans put up a united front and gave it a great effort, they should all be proud! Over one half of the 30 member squad had personal best times for the season and the improvements this team has made over the past couple of months were quite obvious yesterday. The top 5 B-R runners were Alicia Porter, Kasey Fries, Kayla Porter, Eva Bunszell and Carly Rettig. A special thanks to Joe Gillis who took over 200 pictures of the B-R runners at the Taunton race which he put on a CD for the team. The girls will wrap up their season next week with the OCL Championship meet which will be held in Taunton on Tuesday, November 1st. The JV races will kick off at 2:30 and the varsity races approximately 3:30-3:45. Hope to see you there!! Go B-R!!!
10/18 vs Barnstable: The B-R Girls Cross Country hosted their last home meet of the season on Tuesday, October 18th, at Borden Colony in Raynham. It was a good day for the Lady Trojans as they earned their second OCL WIN of season...way to go B-R XC!!! Almost every single runner improved their time on the home 5k course. Kasey Fries placed first for B-R runners, it was nice to see her out in front again! Alicia and Kayla Porter improved their times by at least two minutes on the home course and placed 3rd and 4th in the race. Taylor Lloyd beat her course time by over 3 minutes and Caitlin Masterson had a strong finish placing in the top ten runners for B-R. A special thanks to all the parents who continue to cheer us on!! An extra big thank you to Linda Gillis and Sharon Fries who spoil the kids AND the coaches (amazing treats yesterday!!) The girls will travel to Taunton for their last meet of the season on Tuesday, October 25th. The OCL championship meet is tentatively scheduled for Friday, the 28th at Borden Colony. Hope to see you there!!
10/11 vs Dartmouth:The girls cross country team traveled to Dartmouth on Tuesday where they competed in their first OCL meet of the season. The girls really pulled together as a team and secured a win for B-R. Hard work and a lot of mileage has helped the girls improve each week and it is beginning to pay off as many of the race times on Tuesday improved significantly. The top five runners for B-R were Carly Rettig, Emily Bumpus, Megan McDonald, Alicia Porter and Kayla Porter. Megan McDonald had a great finish pushing herself to the limits as she passed a Dartmouth runner right before the finish line. Kasey Fries gave a great effort and at one point was leading the race. Carly Rettig and Emily Bumpus followed closely behind the lead runner from Dartmouth and never gave up their position in the race. The girls next meet will be home at Borden Colony in Raynham on Tuesday, October 18th, against Barnstable High School. Hope to see you there!!
9/27 vs Durfee: The B-R Girls Cross Country Team won their first meet of the season against Durfee High School on Tuesday, September 27th on their home course at Borden Colony. Congratulations to the following B-R runners who improved their time on the challenging 5k course in Raynham...Kasey Fries, Carly Rettig, Eva Bunszell, Emily Bumpus, Megan McDonald, Renee Beneski, Caitlin Masterson, Mikala Murad, Kerrin Gillis, Megan McGillvray, Liv Larcom and Allison Poh. The top 5 runners for B-R were Kasey Fries, Carly Rettig, Eva Bunszell, Emily Bumpus and Megan McDonald. Thank you to all the parents who came out to support the girls and boys XC teams, it was great to hear your cheers as the runners finished their race!!
9/21 vs Brockton: The Bridgewater Raynham Girls Cross Country had their first home meet at Borden Colony in Raynham against Brockton on Wednesday, September 21st. The younger B-R team was not a match for some of Brockton's veteran runners but the girls put their best foot forward and many of the new members were able to have a good race on one of the toughest courses in the area. The top five runners for B-R were Carly Rettig, Megan McDonald, Eva Bunszell, Kayla Porter and Alicia Porter. Carly Rettig placed first for B-R and set a personal best on the home course running 25:12 minutes. Mikala Murad also improved her time on the home course by nearly 2 minutes...great job!
A special thanks to Mrs. Gillis who helped with scoring and organization. The girls will have their next meet at home on Tuesday, September 27 when they race against Durfee High School. Hope to see you there... GO B-R!!
9/9 Tri Meet vs West Bridgewater, Coyle Cassidy, East Bridgewater: The Bridgewater Raynham Girls Cross Country Team traveled to West Bridgewater for their first meet of the season. The girls ran against some very talented runners from West Bridgewater, Coyle and Cassidy and East Bridgewater High School. Unfortunately, the girls were unsuccessful in securing a win against any of their three opponents but there were some individual accomplishments that should be recognized. The following runners ran their very first cross country race...Alicia Porter, Kayla Porter, Emily Bumpus, Kristen Lowder, Megan McGillvray, Olivia Larcom, Isabella Renzi, Shannon Trahon and Angela Ferrini. The top 5 runners for B-R were Kasey Fries, Eva Bunscell, Carly Rettig, Alicia Porter and Kayla Porter. Mikayla Murad beat her time on the West Bridgewater course by over 2 and 1/2 minutes. It was great to see so many parents at the race cheering on the runners! The next meet for the girls will be on Wednesday, 9/21/2011 (location to be determined).
