Match Notes 2009 Season
10/31 Varsity vs West Bridgewater:
The Lady Trojans lost in their last game of the season 2-0 to West Bridgewater on Saturday morning. Great efforts from forwards Erin Desrosier, Jill Wyman, Shannon O'leary, Michelle Spinney, Ali Ladue, Carly Brady, and Julie Kimball. Strong play from midfielders Matti Reilly, Christie Kimball, Alyssa Gray, Sarah Frye, and Bridget Sweeny. Defensive tenacity from Amanda Wong, Megan Gilmartin, Emily Hemming, Melissa MacDonald and Nichole McNeil. Audrey Dolloff and Sam Coute had a combined 5 saves.JV: The last game Saturday was a great way to end the season! Yet again, with no bench, the 11 girls on the field played their best, and their best can't be beat! The undefeated 2009 JV field hockey team makes the future of BR field hockey look very bright!
10/29 Varsity vs Taunton:
B-R beat Taunton High on Thursday night 3-0. Goal scorers were Alyssa Gray, Shannon O'leary, and Carly Brady. Outstanding performances on the offensive line from Jill Wyman, and Erin Desrosier. Christie Kimball and Matti Reilly were standouts in the midfield and our defensive zone was protected by Amanda Wong, Megan Gilmartin, and Emily Hemming. Audrey Dolloff had 7 saves in goal to record the shutout. Other contributors were Nichole McNeil, Melissa Macdonald, and Jen Petty, on defense, Bridget Sweeny, and Sarah Frye in the midfield, and Michelle Spinney, Ali Ladue, Megan Riley, Julie Kimball, and Kristen Maclellan on the forward line. JV: The B-R junior varsity field hockey team has continued to impress as the season comes to a close. Each game, someone new steps up and matures on the field. Within the first two minutes, Lauren Gray had her typical perfect line drive to the net and Michelle Young got her stick on it to secure the goal. After moving some players, Randi Hatch assisted Abby Raymond's first goal of the season. Michelle young added a second goal, and Lauren Koczella had two of her own as well. Erin Kelley and Sam Coute shared the shutout under the lights.
10/26 Varsity vs Attleboro:
The B-R field hockey team, led by its 13 seniors: forwards Julie Kimball, Michelle Spinney, and Shannon O'leary; midfielders Christie Kimball, Carly Brady, and Megan Riley; defenders, Nichole McNeil, Bridget Sweeny, and Kasey Sullivan; and captains, Jill Wyman, Amanda Wong, Megan Gilmartin, and Emily Hemming played strong until the final second on the clock, but unfortunately lost 1-0 to Attleboro, the league champs. The game was exciting and fun and the seniors were all congratulated for their four years of dedication to the team. Other contributors were Melissa MacDonald, Matti Reilly, Alyssa Gray, Sarah Frye, and Ali Ladue. Sophomore goalie Audrey Dolloff had 9 saves in net. A special thank you to all of the parents who made last night's Senior celebration possible. JV: The junior varsity stayed composed, once again, after a change in plans. Without referees, they were forced to a half hour scrimmage on turf against Attleboro Monday night. The girls took the disappointing news and played to win! Jamie Richards scored all three goals with her first hat trick! Lauren Koczella, Anna Fisher and Michelle Young played well in the forward line. Erin Walsh had an outstanding game in the midfield, as well as stopping all Attleboro's momentum while she played defense for a change. Again, these girls are rising to the occasion in any position on the field. Erin Kelley and Sam Coute shared the goal tending duties.
10/23 Varsity vs West Bridgewater:
The Lady Trojans lost 1-0 against WB in expired time again this week, on a defensive corner called with 4 seconds left in regular game time. Strong defensive support from Amanda Wong, Megan Gilmartin, Emily Hemming, and Melissa MacDonald. Matti Reilly, Alyssa Gray, Christie Kimball, and Sarah Frye were all contributors in the midfield. Offensive efforts from Erin Desrosier, Shannon O'leary, Jill Wyman, Michelle Spinney, Julie Kimball, Ali Ladue, and Julie Kimball. Audrey Dolloff had 5 saves in goal. BR needs 3 wins in our next 3 games in order to qualify for the MIAA State Tournament. JV:The combination of sophmores Lauren Koczella (1g 2a) and Kristen MacLellan (2g 1a) proved successful once again in this nonleague win over WB. All three goals came off of penalty corners and the girls are capitalizing on these advantages. As their coach, I couldnt be more proud of this entire team! Great Job!
10/21 Varsity vs New Bedford:
B-R fell to 5-7-2 yesterday after a 3-0 loss to the New Bedford Whalers. Although the defense did their best to put off New Bedford's offensive efforts, there were 28 defensive penalty corners. Emily Hemming had 2 defensive saves and Audrey Dolloff had 5 saves in net. Forwards Erin Desrosier, Jill Wyman, and Shannon O'leary all had fast breakaways and attempts on goal, but unfortunately were shut down by the Whaler's defense. Amanda Wong and Megan Gilmartin were standouts on defense and Christie Kimball was stellar on both offense and defense. Other contributors were Melissa MacDonald, Nichole McNeil, Sarah Frye, Matti Reilly, Alyssa Gray, Shannon Burke, Michelle Spinney, Ali Ladue, and Julie Kimball. B-R plays West Bridgewater on Friday at home. JV: The Junior Varsity took there disappointment from the tie in Barnstable to go out and put pressure on NB for 50 mins straight. Lauren Koczella once again proved to be strong in the forward line with two assists. Kristen Maclellan and Randi Hatch scored the only two goals of the game, thankfully they both were from BR! Sam Coute and Freshman Erin Kelley shared the shutout. The entire team has been stepping up and playing different positions to prepare for any spots that will open up at the Varsity level.
10/20 Varsity vs Barnstable:
In a battle that came down to playing a penalty corner out after game time had ended, the Lady Trojans fell 2-1 against the ever competitive Barnstable Red Raiders. There was no question of heart of hustle for BR yesterday. The game was tied 0-0 at the half and defense was handling the pressure with composure. However, shortly after half time, Barnstable tallied their first goal. After that, Shannon O'leary took charge, accepting the free hit pass from Christie Kimball, and carrying the ball 20 yards down the field, pulling Barnstable's goalie out of the cage, and shooting right past her. With the score again tied 1-1, BR faced 9 simultanious defensive corners and still managed to keep the ball out of the net. With less that 6 seconds left in the game, another penalty corner was called on B-R and unfortunately, the Red Raiders found the net, pulling off the win at literally the last second. Seniror captain Emily Hemming had a defensive save and Audrey Dolloff had 10 saves in goal. Other contributors were Megan Gilmartin, Amanda Wong, Melissa MacDonald, Nichole McNeil, Alyssa Gray, Matti Reilly, Shannon Burke, Sarah Frye, Jen Petty, Julie Kimball, Jill Wyman, Michelle Spinney, and Ali Ladue. JV: In a hard fought game, the B-R junior varsity played very well. The first half was dominated by the BR midfield of Erin Walsh, Lauren Gray, Erica Warish and Cori Flanagan. Sam Coute had 5 saves in the 0-0 first half. The second half would have usually been cut short due to darkness, so the major focus at halftime was putting the pressure on attack and scoring. The forward line of Abby Raymond, Lauren Koczella, Anna Fisher, Jamie Richards, Kristen MacLellan and Michelle Young did just that by finding the net early in the second half. Freshman goalie Erin Kelley played tough in net stopping shots to the left and right of her. Unfortunately with 10 seconds to go, in complete darkness, Barnstable found the net. Ahhhhh the home field advantage got the best of us. Freshmen: The freshmen took their second loss Tuesday,2-1, against Barnstable. Although our offense was generally very strong up and down the field, it was not enough for us to come out on top. We started a little slow and bunched, but good runs by Nicole Kemmet and Kelsey Donahue gave us good momentum. Tied at the half, the game tipped in our favor when Jessie DiCarlo capatalized on a run with an excellent shot to goal. This is Jessie's second goal in consecutive games. Jackie Kern was also very strong and agressive on offense. Shannon Trahon led the defense from the goal making some great saves in only her second game of the season. Katie Pheifer also held strong on defense. The field hockey freshmen play again next Tuesday at Attleboro.
10/17 Varsity vs Durfee:
B-R bounced back up to 500 on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Durfee. Alyssa Gray scored the first goal, off of an assist from Michelle Spinney, and Jill Wyman sealed the win with the second goal off a pass from Ali Ladue. Shannon O'leary, Erin Derosier, Julie Kimball, Carly Brady, Megan Riley, and Kristen Maclellan were all tenacious on attack. Christie Kimball proved to be a force both offensively and defensively in the midfield and Amanda Wong, Megan Gilmartin, and Emily Hemming protected our defensive end. Audrey Dolloff had 5 saves for the shutout. Other contributors were Nichole McNeil, Melissa McDonald, Matti Reilly, Sarah Frye, and Jen Petty. JV:The 11 players on the field played great Saturday against Durfee. Without a single substitute, and even after an injury, playing with one less player, the JV Trojans came out on top once again with a 4-0 win over the Hiltoppers. Not only did Lauren Koczella score three goals against Durfee, she set up most of the plays with her strong hits, great stickwork, offensive and defensive pressure. Erica Warish played great at left wing, stepping out of her comfort zone to fill a vacant position. She had 1 assist and 1 goal. Lauren Gray's monster drives made it easy for the forwards to be in scoring position.
10/15 Varsity vs Dartmouth:
JV:
The girls found a way to win in this wet, half of a game. After not playing a game for almost two weeks, the JV played with strong stick skills and speed, despite the conditions. Anna Fisher was in the right place at the right time early in the game to accept a pass from Lauren Koczella and find the back of the net. Kristen MacLellan added another to put the Trojans up 2-0. The Indians scored off a hard shot late in the game. KMac added a second goal to secure the lead and the 3-1 win. Sophmore Sam Coute and freshman Erin Kelley shared the goal tending responsibilities. Cori Flannagan had some great carries in the midfiled. Randi Hatch, Christina Wilbar, Emily Amichetti, and Katie MacLellan all played smart on defense. Freshmen: Despite our best efforts, freshmen field hockey took a 4-2 loss to Dartmouth on Thursday. The first goal of the game was made by Jessie DiCarlo. The lead was short-lived when Dartmouth scored, but Kelly Alberti put the Trojans back on top with another goal. Jackie Kern and Colleen McCuddy stayed aggressive on offense and transitioned between offense and defense well, no matter where they were on the field. Unfortunately, Dartmouth rallied and scored another 3 points before the end of the game. The freshmen play again Tuesday at a home game versus Barnstable.
10/13 Varsity vs New Bedford:
JV: Freshmen:
Freshmen Fieldhockey got their second win, 1-0, in their game against New Bedford on Tuesday. The goal came in the second half from the outstanding efforts of Claudia Gonzelez. Claudia was helped with the offensive pressure by Jessie DiCarlo, Nicole Kemmitt, and occasionally a surprise offensive push by defender Shae O'Connell. Our defense was held strong with the stand-out efforts of Breanna Levesque who made excellent moves in the back and with Erin Kelley who kept an impenetrable goal. The young trojans will be back at it on Thursday against Dartmouth.
10/8 Varsity vs Brockton:
The Brockton Boxers came to the BR field looking for retaliation for the 8-0 loss earlier in the season. Playing against an all male front line and in a game filled with dangerous play and fouls, the BR girls remained composed and managed to pull off a tie, with a final score of 2-2. Shannon O?Leary scored both goals for the Lady Trojans. The first goal was assisted by captain, Jill Wyman, who is leading the team in goals and assists (8 goals & 4 assists) and the second was assisted by center mid, Alyssa Gray. Determined play in the forward line from Erin Desrosier, Michelle Spinney, Julie Kimball, Megan Riley, Carly Brady, and Ali Ladue. Christie Kimball and Matti Reilly were diligent in the midfield, tackling back on defense and pushing up on attack. The veteran defense made up of three captains, Megan Gilmartin, Emily Hemming, and Amanda Wong, stayed focused and unwavering, despite the aggressive nature of the boys on the forward line. Other contributors were Sarah Frye, Jen Petty, Shannon Buke, Melissa MacDonald, and Nichole McNeil. Audrey Dolloff had 5 saves in goal.
10/2 Varsity vs Pembroke:
B-R field hockey gained a W on Friday with a 2-1 win over Pembroke, bringing their record to 4-4-1. Both goals were scored by captain Jill Wyman, who set the tone on offense. The first was assisted by senior forward Michelle Spinney and the second was assisted by senior midfielder Christie Kimball. Amanda Wong, Emily Hemming, and Megan Gilmartin protected sophomore goalie Audrey Dolloff (6 saves) on defense. Other contributors were Melissa MacDonald, Nichole McNeil, and Bridget Sweeny (on defense), Alyssa Gray, Matti Reilly, Sarah Frye, and Shannon Burke (in the midfield), and Ali Ladue, Julie Kimball, Carly Brady, Kristen Maclellan, and Megan Riley, on attack.
10/1 Varsity vs Taunton:
Despite over 19 shots on goal, the BR field hockey team tied taunton on Thursday 0-0. Megan Gilmartin, Amanda Wong, and Melissa MacDonald were standouts on defense and Jill Wyman was strong on attack. JV: The junior varsity put all the work from this season's practice in place for yesterday's game. Each goal was scored off an advantage put in place by the strong BR defense and Midfield. Lauren Koczella scored the first goal early in the half, off a free hit from Lauren Gray. Kristen MacLellan scored her first of three off another unstoppable free-hit from Lauren Gray. Kristen's next two goals were scored off textbook passes across the goal from Jamie Richards and Randi Hatch. Randi played forward for the first time this year...and it certainly wont be her last. As soon as she stepped on the field she assisted a goal and then carried the ball down field, pulled the keeper off her angle, and lifted the ball to the back left corner of the net. Sam Coute recorded yet another shut-out. Way to go girls! Freshmen: Freshmen Fieldhockey got another tie (2-2) against Taunton on Friday. The girls just barely missed another win leading 2-1 until the last seconds of the game. Kelsey Donahue scored both goals of the game getting one in the first and the other in the second half. Nicole Kemmitt made several ofeensive break-aways keeping the Taunton defense working. Midfielders including Brianna Borghetti, Claudia Gonzales, and Courney Sullivan helped keep the game on the offensive side for the majority of the game. Our defense held strong throughout the game with the help of Breanna Levesque, Katie Pheiffer, and Shae O'Connell. Erin Kelley made excellent saves at goal. The team held off several attempts at goal from corners, and unfortunately, in the last moments of the game, Taunton found their openning. The trojans play New Bedford again at home on October 13th.
9/29 Varsity vs Attleboro:
The Lady Trojans lost another tough OCL game yesterday to Attleboro with a final score of 4-0. Down by just 1 (1-0) at the half and with two key players out due to injury (Emily Hemming and Alyssa Gray) defender Amanda Wong, midfielder Christie Kimball, and forward Jill Wyman took charge out on the field, but sadly it wasn't enough to stop 3 quick goals from being scored early in the second half. Defensive support from Megan Gilmartin and Melissa MacDonald. Courtney Semas had 6 saves in the first half and Audrey Dolloff had 5 saves in the second half. BR faces Taunton on Thursday at home and is looking for a win. JV: After being tied at the half, 0 - 0 Michelle Young scored late in the game off an assit from Lauren Kozcella to pull out a win. Sam Coute recorded the shutout with help from Christina Wilbar on defense. Randi Hatch played smart in all three lines on the field today. Freshmen: The freshmen fought for their first win of the season! We topped Attleboro 1-0. The goal came from the unyielding offensive efforts of Courtney Sullivan. Courtney was helped with constant offensive pressure by fellow players Nicole Kemmitt, Kelsey Donahue, Brianna Borghetti, Jessie DiCarlo, and Colleen McCuddy. Defense was solid with Shae O'Connell and Samantha Clemintino showing experience in the back. Newcomers Breanna Levesque and Katie Pheiffer made encouraging debuts on defense helping our goalie, Erin Kelley keep Attleboro at bay. Overall, the team is showing improvements each week and growing into a great team. The team travels to take on Taunton on Friday.
9/24 Varsity vs Pembroke:
Tallying their third win of the season, the BR field hockey team played with tenacity and pride in the home game against Pembroke and finished with a 2-1 score. Matti Reilly was positioned at left post and ready for the one-time shot, scoring the first goal of the game off of an assist from Erin Desrosier. Sophomore Ali Ladue scored the second goal, which was assisted by Jill Wyman during a rush on the Pembroke goalie. Alyssa Gray, Christie Kimball, and Sarah Frye were standouts in the midfield, while Emily Hemming, Megan Gilmartin, Amanda Wong, Nicole McNeil, and Melissa MacDonald protected the cage on defense. Courtney Semas had 6 saves in net. Other contributors were Megan Riley, Carly Brady, Julie Kimball, Shannon O'Leary, and Jen Petty. JV: The JV played with determination to pull out the 1-0 win over Pembroke. Kristen MacLellan scored the lone goal in the second half. Katie Maclellan, Randi Hatch, Christina Wilbar and Emily Amichetti kept the ball away from goalie Audry Dolloff, who had her first solo shut-out of her field hockey career!
9/22 Varsity vs Barnstable:
There was no question of effort in yesterday's game against Barnstable, but unfortunately the Lady Trojans had a hard time finding the net and lost 4-0. Left back, Amanda Wong had 3 defensive saves and broke up several Red Raider offensive efforts. Strong defensive support from Megan Gilmartin, Emily Hemming, and Melissa MacDonald. Christie Kimball and Alyssa Gray were standouts in the midfield. Offensive pressure from Jill Wyman, Shannon O'Leary, Erin Desrosier, and Ali Ladue. Courtney Semas had 8 saves in net. JV: The Junior Trojans played their heart out today against an always tough and big Barnstable team. We were very low on numbers due to injuries and common colds. The girls played for a full 50 minutes with just one substitute and never let up. In the last 10 minutes, we had over 10 shots on goal, unfortunately, without finding a hole. Audry Dolloff and Sam Coute shared their second shut-out. Every player contributed to this game and should be proud of the way they played! Freshmen: Field hockey freshmen got their 3rd tie for the season against Barnstable with a final score of 1-1. Erin Kelley was a force to be reckoned with making several clutch saves. Shae O'Connell and Colleen McCuddy were strong in our defense keeping Barnstable's attacks ineffective. Jackie Kern and Kelly Alberti were crucial on offense pressuring the Barnsatable team at every opportunity. Kelsey Donahue scored her first goal to put the Trojans up 1-0 early in the second half. The freshmen are going into "beast mode" and ready to their first win against Attleboro next week.
9/19 Varsity vs Durfee:
The B-R field hockey team beat Durfee 2-0 in Saturday's match up. Right-wing Michelle Spinney found the net in the first half off of an assist from right-mid Christie Kimball. After much offensive pressure from Jill Wyman, Ali Ladue, Shannon O'Leary, Carly Brady, Julie Kimball, and Kristen Maclellan, it was center-midfielder Alyssa Gray that finally scored with one minute left in the second half on a fast break away. Sarah Frye, Shannon Burke, and Jen Petty were also strong in the midfield. Defensive efforts from senior captains Megan Gilmartin, Emily Hemming, and Amanda Wong. Defensive support from Nichole McNeil, Bridget Sweeny, and Melissa MacDonald. Courtney Semas had 8 saves in net to record her second shut-out of the season. JV: With a hat trick from Kristen MacLellan and Anna Fisher adding the fourth goal, BR won their first game of the season after feeling unresolved by the two prior tie games. Anna Fisher, Jamie Richard, Michelle Young and Erin Walsh all contributed to the score with their assists. Christina Wilbar, Randi Hatch and Emily Amichetti kept the ball away from our keepers all game, allowing Audrey Dolloff and Sam Coute shared the shutout. Kayla Maynard played versatile in the midfield.
9/17 Varsity vs Dartmouth:
B-R field hockey fell short in our first league game of the season, finishing with a 3-1 score against Dartmouth. Strong defensive efforts from Megan Gilmartin, Emily Hemming, Amanda Wong, Melissa MacDonald, and Nichole McNeil. Senior goaltender Courtney Semas had 16 saves in net. Shannon O'Leary scored the loan goal early in the second half. The Lady Trojans play Durfee tomorrow away. JV: The B-R Junior Varsity played well against Dartmouth. Michelle Young had a textbook carry down the wing, pulling the keeper well off her angle. As a veteran player would do, she saw a tough shot on net and Lauren Koczella was in position for a pass and an open shot on net. The Trojans turned up the heat in the last 10 min dominating the Indian defense. Jen Petty proved strong at all three positions on the field. Emily Amichetti, Randi Hatch Katie Maclellan and Christina Wilbar played a strong defensive game. Audry Dolloff and Sam Coute had a combined 11 saves. Freshmen: The freshmen field hockey players tied Darthmouth 1-1 in their second match Thursday. Down 1-0, the team fought back with the help of plays set up by Courtney Sullivan, Claudia Gonzalez, and Kelsey Donahue. Jessie DiCarlo made excellent offensive plays and the scored was tied up with a great goal by Kelly Alberti. The trojans take their next game to Barnstable on Tuesday.
9/15 Varsity vs New Bedford:
Despite strong efforts from Amanda Wong, Emily Hemming, and Megan Gilmartin on defense, the lady Trojans fell 6-2 against the New Bedford Whalers. Erin Desroiser scored on a fast breakaway in the second half, dodging three New Bedford defenders and Jill Wyman scored shortly after off of a rebound from the goalie's pads. Other standouts were sophomores Ali Ladue and Sarah Frye. Courtney Semas and Audrey Dolloff had a combined 10 saves in net. JV: The B-R junior varsity played their first game of the season against an always fierce New Bedford team. Kristen MacLellan put B-R on the board with and early goal. The midfield efforts of Jen Petty, Melissa MacDonald, and Lauren Gray made the New Bedford defense work hard in the first half. After being up 1-0 at the start of the second half, the Trojans let up a little and New Bedford capitalized with a gaol. Sam Coute had 8 saves in net and many strong clears. Huge contributors in the midfield were Matti Reily, Christie Kimball, and Alyssa Gray, with help from Shannon Burke and Sarah Frye. The veteran defense led by senior captains Amanda Wong, Emily Hemming, and Megan Gilmartin were strong in holding on to the shutout. Senior goalie Courtney Semas and sophomore goalie Audrey Dolloff shared the shutout with 7 saves. Other contributors were Chloe St. Thomas, Melissa McDonald, Jen Petty, Kasey Sullivan, Nichole McNeil, and Bridget Sweeny.
