To start the second half, hanover took us by surprise and drove down the field to score. Despite the pressure, we held tough on defense and had a great victory! Freshmen: After an absolute offensive attack,Hanover was able to keep the Trojans at bay with a 1-1 tie. The Hanover goalkeeper and defense has their work cut out for them as BR was relentless putting 24 shots at or slightly to the left and right side of the Hanover goal. The loan goal scorer for the Freshmen was Lauren Koczela. Captains for the game were Emily Amichetti and Sam Coute. Michelle Spinney, Sarah Wigley and Marianne Mastriola had strong offensive pressure. Kayla Maynard and Shannon Burke played well in the midfield. JV: The junior varsity couldnt "offensively" find the net in a hard fought game against Attleboro. Offensive pressure was put up from Sarah Wigley, Carly Brady and Anna Fisher. Jess Hadley, Nicole McNeil and Julie Kimball had great games on defense. Freshmen BR goalkeeper Sam Coute played well in net turning away 8 shots and the attack managed to get 4 goals past the Attleboro defense but time ran out and resulting in a 4-4 tie. Kristin Maclellan and Allie Ladue lead the BR offense with 2 goals each (2 assists by Laurel Scannell and one a piece by Lauren Grey and Lauren Koczela. Freshmen vs Apponequet: After a slow start, the Lady Trojans came out fighting in the second half of their match up at Apponequet and never let down. Lauren Koczela had a few breath stopping breakaways and Christina Wilbar made it look easy as she calmly block tackled and stopped 3 Apponequet breakaways. Every game this team plays is an absolute group effort with different leaders stepping up at different moments in different ways to motivate their teammates to run faster, play more aggressively, communicate louder, and to hit the ball harder. Jenna Manning and Amanda Wong were standouts on defense and Michelle Ives was a key player in the midfield. Ally Cournoyer had 10 saves in the net. JV: The Lady Trojans felt their first loss of the season. After being tied at the half the team went out confident, but there were many missed opportunities. Jen Petty and Michelle Young controlled the Midfield and Nicole McNeil had some great defensive saves and clears. Freshmen: In their first home game of the season the freshmen squad started off slightly disoriented but regrouped ten minutes into the first half and never looked back!! After a pep talk by Coach Sullivan; Sarah Frye took matters into her own hands and with a perfect feed from Randi Hatch drilled a hard shot past Stoughtons unassuming defense. Following a couple "text book" passing combinations Sarah Frye fed Randi Hatch the ball who turned towards goal and buried the ball into the Stoughton net. With strong play by Lauren Grey, Randi Hatch, Megan McDonald, and Alison Ladue, Erin Walsh, Gina Nelson, Erika Warish, Nicole Ledoux, and Emily Amichetti the Trojans completely shut down the Stoughtons offense. Sarah Frye's free hits were unstoppable and Lauren Koczelas hustle was infectious to those plaing near her. 15 minutes into the second half Lauren Koczela crossed the ball to a focused Alison Ladue to tie up the game with her powerful shot. The match was intense and well fought by both teams. Captains for the game were Kristin Maclellan, Nicole Ledoux, and Alison Ladue. Keeper Katie MacLellan recorded her second shutout with some great saves from a tireless Dartmouth offense. Freshmen:The Lady Trojans traveled to Dartmouth Thursday and had a new plan of attack in mind as they battled a strong Dartmouth squad. After a lucky goal by Dartmouth in the first 6 minutes of the game BR regrouped and did not give up on offense or while defending their goal until the whistle blew at the end of the game. The first goal of the season was against a phenominal Stoughton High goalkeeper with credit going to Kristin Maclellan, Megan McDonald, and Lauren Koczela for the goal. (Wouldnt that have been 4th party though?!) Goalkeeper Sam Coute managed to keep the Lady Knights at bay with a total of 7 saves. JV: The junior varsity field hockey team began their season with a 5-0 victory over the Brockton Boxers. Playing with only seven players on the field was no problem for the Trojans as we played using the whole field, and every teammate. Marianne Mastriola scored two goals and three assists, Bridget Sweeney and Sarah Wigley each tallied a goal and an assist a peice. Michelle Spinney stepped it up for the team to play forward and didnt dissapoint with her first goal!
