Game Notes 2012 Season
11/22 Varsity vs Brockton: The Trojans fell behind 21 - 0 by halftime and could only put two late TD's on the scoreboard in trhe second half while Brockton added one more score. Four Trojan turnovers helped the Boxers control the game. B-R's Arcel Armstead was named the teams MVP of the game.
11/17 Freshmen vs Brockton: Defying all expectations this fall, the Class of 2016 wrapped up their freshmen football careers finishing with a 9-2 record after a convincing win over Brockton, 30-16. In his first start at tailback this fall, Jensen Vallarelli ran well and scored two touchdowns while Zach Fries and Alex Smith also contributed scoring runs. Quarterback Stevie D'Emilia was on target completing 6 of 7 pass attempts and throwing for two two-point conversions. Despite being undersized compared to the Boxers, the offensive line of Mike Pyne, Justin Smith, Tom Rizzo, Chris Newman and John Foley controlled the line of scrimmage for most of the game. Brockton struggled to move the ball on B-R's defense with the only Boxer scores coming on a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown, and, later, on a long pass against the B-R second string defense. All in all it was a good season for a team that truly had to fight for every inch.
11/3 JV vs
Stoughton:
11/16 JV vs Brockton: The B-R JV team fought like champions but came up short vs. a much bigger Brockton O Line. The final score was 12-0. The Trojans D held the Brockton scoreless through 3 quarters. But, the Boxers scored to start the 4th quarter to make it 6-0 and then scored with 3 left mins to make the score 12-0. Will Fuller played an outstanding game on defense. The Trojans finished the year 7-3 and battled hard in every game.
11/9 Varsity vs Stoughton:
The Trojans enjoyed a 14 - 6 at halftime but it evaporated in the second half as the Stoughton Black Knights speed (90 yard TD run on the opening kick-off of the second half), interceptions (3) and 3 costly personal fouls called on B-R was the difference. Brandon Gallagher had an outstanding game, 169 yards on 28 carries and three TDs. JV: The BR JV football team won a close game vs. Stoughton High. The final score was 16-8. The Trojans got up 16-0 in 3rd on a Matty "Ice" Clement QB sneak. Stoughton Finally scored in 4th with 7 mins left to make it 16-8. The Trojans then held on twice to preserve the victory. The win improves the JV team to 7-2.Freshmen: Despite running the ball fairly well offensively, the freshmen struggled with dumb penalties, stopping Stoughton's wing-t offense, and some key late-game injuries. Nevertheless, B-R pulled off a 30-20 win over the Black Knights to improve to 8-2 with only one game remaining on the season. Zach Fries led the offense with two touchdown runs. Alex Smith scored on a 43 yard break-away run early in the game and Jensen Vallarelli punched in another score from 42 yards out. The freshmen will need a better effort in their season-finale against Brockton next week.
11/3 JV vs Barnstable:
The BR JV football team lost a tough game to the Barnstable Red Raiders by a score of 14-8. The Trojans were up 8-6 with 54 seconds left and the Barnstable QB escaped a sack and the wr broke off his route and ran the base line and the Raiders scored to make it 12-8. BR got the ball back and went to a spread formation and went 60 yards on 4 plays and had two shots from the 30 to score but had a couple dropped balls.
Freshmen: The long, early Saturday morning bus ride to Barnstable showed little effect on the freshmen football team as a solid B-R effort led to a 26-6 win. Jensen Vallarelli, Stevie D'Emilia, and Zach Fries each contributed rushing touchdowns for the Trojans and tight end Kyle Johnston caught a touchdown pass from D'Emilia. With the win, the Trojans finished undefeated in Old Colony League play.
11/2 Varsity vs Barnstable
:The game had everything a B-R fan could want except the final score. The Trojans trailed throughout the game but never gave up and carried the fight to the Red Raiders right to the end bring the score to 25 - 27 and looking for the equalizing two point conversion with 4:03 left to play. When Barnstable went up 27-13 with 7:31 remaining in the 4th quarter junior Ryan Martin went 82-yards on the kick-off return to revive hope for the Trijans. QB Jordan Cohen completed TD passes to Kevin Wadsworth in the second quarter, as well as a 17-yard TD pass to Ryan Scripterin the third quarter.

10/ 27 JV
vs Dartmouth: The Bridgewater-Raynham JV football team had a nice come from behind victory over the Dartmouth Indians. The final score was 18-14. The Trojans got down 14-0 in the first quarter but scored in the 2nd quarter, the 3rd quarter and the 4th quarter. Brendan Connolly blocked well and Therone McQueen and Connor Reid ran the ball hard all day. The Defense shut out the Indians for the final 3 quarters. Theo Barbetto, Bruce Thorne, Pat Wholley and Will Fuller played well on D. The Trojans are now 6-1. Freshmen:
Once again this season, the freshmen football team needed the final seconds of a game to secure a win - this time 12-6 over Old Colony League rival Dartmouth. Tied 6-6 with less than a minute remaining and forced to punt, Zach Fries booted a high-sailing kick deep into Dartmouth territory. With a generous bounce, long snapper Tom Rizzo made one of the plays of the year by downing the punt on Dartmouth's 1-yard line. On the ensuing play, Dartmouth's quarterback panicked in the endzone against B-R's pass rush, which was keyed all game long by defensive end Kyle Johnston, lost control of the ball and threw it to one of his offensive linemen - an illegal play resulting in a safety. But the play continued and cornerback Chris Renzi sized the lineman up and stripped the ball out for safety Alex Smith to recover in the end zone. With the choice between a safety and a touchdown, B-R elected for the touchdown before a Dartmouth personal foul penalty on the resulting two point attempt was tacked on to the kickoff. With a longer field to defend, B-R's defense held on in the final seconds for the win. As the season winds down with three games remaining (Barnstable, Stoughton and Brockton), B-R sits at 6-2, so the win over Dartmouth guaranteed the Trojans will finish over .500 on the season. Earlier in the game Cade McNaughten tied the score at 6-6 after his short touchdown run capped a third quarter spanning drive highlighted by the hard running of Alex Smith. It was a good win for the freshmen, albeit sloppy at times, considering they were working on only two days of preparation and playing their second game in four days after losing to Xaverian earlier in the week.
10/26 Varsity vs Dartmouth:
The B-R Trojans dominated the Dartmouth Indians with Jordan Cohen going for 14 for 16 in the air for 217 yards and two touchdowns. Kevin Wadsworth and Brandon Gallagher each scored a pair of touchdowns.
10/23 Freshmen vs Xaverian: A hard-fought second half effort simply wasn't enough for the freshmen to overcome a very talented Xaverian passing attack led by an outstanding quarterback and his dynamic receiver Cody Tippett. The Hawks threw their way to 19-0 halftime lead but B-R responded in the second half with a better defensive performance and a long third quarter scoring drive capped by a short Jensen Vallarelli touchdown run. B-R opened the third quarter with a long drive keyed by tailback Alex Smith's hardest running performance of the season to date, but the drive sputtered out when a would-be touchdown catch by Kyle Johnston was ripped out of his hands by a Xaverian defensive back for an interception. Another long Trojans drive in the fourth quarter stalled inside the Xaverian 20 yard line with a questionable spot on a fourth down Vallarelli run. But the freshmen deserve credit for fighting to the end of the game when they could've easily packed it in at halftime. After the 19-6 loss the Trojans enter Old Colony League play at 5-2.
10/ 22 JV
vs Xaverian: BR JV football team had a nice win vs the Xaverian Hawks. The final score was 14-8. Therone Mcqueen ran hard and scored a touchdown. With the score tied 8-8 Clement found Reagan with a deep ball to get down to the 10 yard line. Then Clement scored on QB sneak with 1 min left. Finally, With 10 seconds left the Hawks had two plays from the Trojans 25 and the DBs did a great job covering.
10/20 Varsity vs Xaverian:
A tense 15 seconds at the end of the game with Xaverian on the 5-yard line and down by 5 went the Trojans way as the B-R defense came up big to stop the Hawks and win 32 - 27. Ryan Murphy had a big day with three TD receptions as did QB Jordan Cohen (17 for 21 and 199 yards). B-R was down 13 - 12 at the half and took the lead for good in the thirsd quarter. The teams then proceeded to exchange touchdowns in the fourth quarter with B-R shutting the door at the end of the game.
10/12 Varsity vs LaSalle Academy
:
10/11 Freshmen vs Diman Voke: B-R's freshmen dominated every facet of the game and every player on the roster saw significant playing time with the second string offense entering the game on the second play from scrimmage.
10/8
JV
vs St John's: The Bridgewater - Raynham JV football team suffered their first lost of the season. The Trojans down 14-6 drove all the way down the field to the tie game 14-14 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Cam Goodrich got the TD and the two point conversion. To start the 4th the Trojans kickoff team then allowed St Johns Prep to return the kickoff 80 yards to make the score 21-14. The Trojans almost tied the game twice in the final minutes. The game was an intense battle all day. Matt Clement played well at QB and Connor Reagan played well on D and O.
10/6 Varsity vs St. John's:
Alex Moore proved to be a one man wrecking crew (228 all-purpose yards and 3 TDs) and was all St. John's needed along with a strong defense to hold B-R at bay. Moore's three TD's were all of the big play variety, 35-yard TD pass, 89-yard run 28 seconds into the second half, and a 62-yard run midway through the 4th quarter. Brandon Gallagher scored late in the 3rd quarter on a 3-yard run TD run with Kevin Wadsworth making the PAT late in the 3rd quarter to make it 14 - 7. It was a physical game with haed hits delievered from both teams and a bit chippy. Freshmen: St. John's Prep had the depth and numbers but B-R's freshmen football team had the toughness and heart to improve to 4-1 at the midway point of the season. On the opening possession the Eagles drove to the Trojan 5-yard line with ease, but after a tough goal line stand it was all B-R from that point on as the freshmen rolled to a 22-6 halftime lead and a convincing 36-14 road win over one of the top programs on the North Shore and in Massachusetts. Tight end Kyle Johnston, in his first game back from an injury, blocked exceptionally well filling in at offensive tackle. He also controlled the line of scrimmage on defense as an end and caught a two-point conversion pass. Cade McNaughten intercepted a Prep pass attempt and returned it for a touchdown. Alex Smith, Zach Fries, and Jason Emmons all ran hard and contributed touchdowns for the Trojans while Smith and Fries also had two point conversions. The Trojans will face Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School in a previously unscheduled game in Fall River on Thursday.
9/29 Varsity vs New Bedford: The Trojans scored four times in the first half building a 28 - 0 halftime lead and then added two more touchdowns on their first two possessions of the second half to put the game away. Brandon Gallagher scored three times in the first half. B-R gained 230 yards on the ground and held New Bedford to 50 yards rushing. The Whalers were able to score two second half TDs via passes while many starters were pulled from the game. J
V: The Bridgewater - Raynham JV football team struggled a little bit versus a tough JV team from New Bedford. The Trojans won by a score of 30-20. Connor "deion sanders" Kennedy had a career day as he had 3 interception and returned one for a 38 yard touchdown. Cam Goodrich returned the opening kickoff 85 yards to tie the game 6-6.
9/28 Freshmen vs New Bedford: With a better all around effort than the previous week, the freshmen bounced back from a blowout loss to Marshfield by creeping away with a 14-8 win over New Bedford. The Trojans needed the hard running of fullback Jensen Vallarelli to overcome a rainstorm, a host of turnovers, multiple mental mistakes, penalties and two offensive drives which stalled in the Whalers red-zone. Clinging to a touchdown lead late in the fourth quarter and needing a first down to keep the clock running, Vallarelli broke free on a simple third down handoff to seal the victory. Earlier, the Trojans had taken a 14-8 lead on the first drive of the third quarter with a 10 yard run by Cade McNaughten. In the first half Zach Fries scored on a long touchdown run.
9/22 Varsity vs Marshfield:
JV: Marshfield JV forfeit BR wins 2-0. Freshmen: Out-played and out-matched, the freshmen program lost its first game since early in the 2010 season, falling to a very talented Marshfield squad, 36-12. The loss snapped an 18-game win streak dating back to a win over Plymouth North two seasons ago and was the most one-sided loss for the freshmen program in at least 5 years.
9/15 Varsity vs Durfee:
On the first play from scrimmage, sophomore tailback Brandon Gallagher took a simple handoff and sprinted untouched 49 yards past a wall of Durfee defenders to set the tone early with the first of his two touchdown runs in Week 2's 34-7 nonleague win over Durfee. Thriving behind the Trojans' sizable offensive line, Gallagher finished the game with 175 yards rushing on 14 carries to power B-R (1-1) to its first win of the season. Complementing Gallagher's power-running was senior quarterback Jordan Cohen, who notched 104 yards passing while completing 6 of 10 pass attempts - including touchdown throws to senior receivers Ryan Scripter (55 yards) and Kevin Wadsworth (18 yards). Senior fullback Ryan Murphy rounded out the scoring for the Trojans with a one-yard touchdown rumble in the second quarter. Defensively the Trojans played well except for a missed tackle on a late second quarter Durfee screen play that resulted in an 83-yard touchdown for Hilltoppers' back Raheem Barzey.JV:
The Bridgewater-Raynham JV football team had a nice win at Durfee High School. The Trojans won 45-6. Cam Goodrich scored 2 touchdowns, Mike Munro had two touchdowns and Justin Finlayson had an impressive run has he carried 4 defenders on his back into the end zone. Will Fuller did a great job at center and DT. The Trojans defense did not allow a point as Durfee scored on the opening kickoff. The JV team will face Marshfield High School next week. Freshmen: Despite some inconsistent play, the freshmen football team cruised to a 36-16 road win over Durfee while advancing to 2-0 on the young season. Every player on the roster saw game action and Durfee's two touchdowns came with second string players on the field. Jensen Vallarelli, Matt Reagan, Stevie D'Emilia, Zach Fries and Alex Smith each recorded touchdowns for the Trojans. D'Emilia ran for one two point conversion and completed a two point conversion throw to Michael Lombard. Cade McNaughten also chipped in a two-point conversion run.
9/10 JV vs Duxbury:
The B-R JV football team got off to a hot start Monday afternoon by defeating the Duxbury Dragons 38-0. The Trojans were led by Cam Goodrich, who scored 3 touchdowns on the day. The Oline of Nick Whittemore, Pat Wholley, Charlie Driscoll, Andrew Sargent, Brendan Connolly and Anthony Sullivan looked impressive throughout the day. The Trojans defense was very solid. The JV team travels to Durfee next Monday
9/8 Varsity vs Duxbury:
Duxbury racked up 376 yards of no-huddle offense powered by running back Jon Hurvitz who gained 205 yards for the Green Dragons. The Trojans fell behind after Duxbury's first possession(76 yards in six plays). B-R tied the game just before the 2nd quarter ended when QB Jordan Cohen dove over from one yard out and Kevin Wadsworth kicked the PAT. Wadsworth had a strong game with a interception to stop a Duxbury 1st quarter drive and a strong punting game. A 61 yard TD run by Duxbury's Hurvitz late in the 3rd quarter made it 14 - 7. A recovered squib kick on the ensuing kickoff eventually led to Duxbury's 3rd TD of the game and put the game away. Cohen connected on 10 of 20 passes for 101 yards while Brandon Gallagher gained 68 yards on 18 carries.
9/7 Freshmen vs Duxbury:
Clinging to a six-point lead over season-opening foe Duxbury, and pinned under the shadow of its own goal post late in the fourth quarter, the B-R freshmen football team lined up for a critical fourth down punt but instead reached deep into the bag of tricks. The visiting Trojans elected to have punter Jensen Vallarelli run out of the back of the end-zone for an intentional safety - with the ensuing free kickoff offering better field position than the threat of a blocked punt. The plan worked to perfection as the Trojan defense held strong for one final heart-racing series to seal a hard-earned 14-10 victory. Matt Reagan and Jason Emmons each intercepted Duxbury's quarterback to spark a defensive effort which allowed just three Green Dragons' completions in the game. Vallarelli showed grit in all three phases of the game and lead the offense with two second quarter touchdown runs. Zach Fries provided a key two-point conversion run and played well all over the field on defense. Duxbury's lone touchdown came in the third quarter when the Green Dragons' quarterback broke free on zone keeper from about 60 yards out. B-R (1-0) will look to continue improving next week against B.M.C. Durfee in Fall River.
