Game Notes: 2008 - 2009 Season
3/7 MIAA Tournament, Semi Finals vs Springfield Cathedral:
The most successful season in BR history came to a disappointing end Saturday afternoon with a 5-0 loss to Springfield Cathedral in the Division 1 South Sectional semi-finals. The Trojans finished with a record of 14-7-2. Playing in their final game for the Trojans were seniors Mike Mulrey, Mike Pantano, Billy Weinstein and your captain Kyle O'Connell.
2/28 MIAA Tournament, Quarter Finals vs Walpole:
Ryan Donovan scored just 58 seconds into overtime to give BR the win over Walpole 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the Division 1 South Sectionals. Jimmy Weldon and Josh Deangilis assisted on the game winning goal. Adam McGrath gave the Trojans the lead in the second period on a phenomenal individual effort. Robbie St. Germain made 24 saves and lost his shut out bid with just 1:16 left in regulation. BR will now face Springfield Cathedral in the semi-finals.
Donovans' 21st goal gave him 44 points for the season the most by a Trojan since Orestis Tiliakos had 43 points in the 1999-2000 season.
2/26 MIAA Tournament South Sectional vs Barnstable:
Special teams played a huge part in helping BR knock off Barnstable 6-3 in the first round of the South Sectional tournament. The Trojans scored three times on the power play and once shorthanded. Ryan Donovan led the offense with 2 goals and 3 assists. Kyle O'Connell (1 a), Josh Deangilis (2 a), Jimmy Weldon (1 a) and Tyler Whealan also scored for BR while Adam McGrath had two assists. Robbie St. Germain played superbly in his first career post season start making 33 saves.
2/19 South of Boston Shootout vs Marshfield:
The Trojans dropped it's second straight game in the consolation round of the South of Boston Shootout, 4-2 to Marshfield. Josh Deangilis continued with his hot hand scoring both goals for BR and now has the Trojans last five goals. Robbie St. Germain made 25 saves in the loss.
2/18 South of Boston Shootout vs Franklin:
The Trojans 11 game unbeaten streak (10-0-1) came to an end at the hands of Franklin HS 5-3 during the second round of the South of Boston Shootout. Josh Deangilis' second period hat trick (3 goals) cut into a pair of Franklin 3 goal leads to shrink the deficit to one goal after two at 4-3. An empty net goal sealed BR's fate with 11 seconds to play. Ryan Donovan had 3 assists and Jimmy Weldon had 2 assists of his own.
2/16 South of Boston Shootout vs Coyle Cassidy:
B-R came out and dominated a Coyle and Cassidy team who many considered to still have a chance at the Super 8 tourney 3-1, outshooting them 31-18 in the process. Special teams play was the difference in this one with both teams converting on the power play but the Trojans scored twice shorthanded to secure the victory in the first round of 3rd annual South of Boston Shootout.
Jimmy Weldon (pp), Kyle O'Connell (sh) and Mike Pantano (sh) were the goal scorers for B-R. Robbie St. Germain stopped the last 17 shots he faced after a deflected shot from the point beat him early in the first period. BR will face Franklin next after they beat Brockton easily 7-2.
2/14 Varsity vs Taunton:
B-R wrapped up it's second straight OCL title and the 4th in 6 years by beating Taunton 7-0. After a scoreless first period it took defenseman Matt Collins' second goal of the season to spark the offense. Tyler Whealan and Teddy Buckley also scored second period goals while Kyle O'Connell, Ryan Donovan, Mike Pantano and Josh Deangilis put the game away in the third. Robbie St. Germain and Dylan Joyce made 17 saves between them for the shutout.
2/7 Varsity vs Attleboro:
Two third period goals by Ryan Donovan (2 assists) and another by JB Sweeney, the first for the freshman, were more than BR needed to easily beat Attleboro 5-1. Teddy Buckley and Jimmy Weldon (1 assist) had the other two goals for the Trojans. Josh Deangilis chipped in with 3 assists and Robbie St. Germain had 18 saves in the win.
2/7 Varsity vs Duxbury:
Jimmy Weldon led the way for BR scoring twice in the second period as the Trojans cruised to a 4-1 non-league victory at Duxbury. The win puts BR in the post season for the fourth straight year and six out of the last seven. Matt Hart scored his first varsity goal just 47 seconds after Duxbury spoiled Robbie St. Germain's (22 saves) shutout bid in the third period. Mike Pantano's third goal of the season came just five minutes into the game and gave the Trojans a lead they would not relinquish.
2/4 Varsity vs Barnstable:
The Trojans ran its unbeaten streak to seven games with a 3-3 tie against Barnstable. Ryan Donovan has lead the offensive during the streak with 12 goals and 7 assists. Donovan had all three goals for BR and Robbie St. Germain stopped a third period penalty shot to keep BR's shot at an outright league championship possible. The Trojans need just one point in there last two league games to clinch the title.
1/31 Varsity vs Dartmouth:
The Trojans won for the sixth straight time beating Dartmouth 3-0. Robbie St. Germain made 13 of his 19 saves in the third period while Billy Weinstein and Ryan Donovan scored to secure the victory for BR. Josh Deangilis' goal gave the Trojans the lead late in the second period after a scoreless first. BR outshot Dartmouth 31-19 improving to 5-0 in the OCL and 8-4-1 overall.
1/25 Varsity vs Taunton:
The Trojans won their 5th game in a row with a convincing 6-2 win over Taunton, outshooting the Tigers 61-17. Ryan Donovan had huge night scoring four times and adding an assist. Defenseman Matt Collins (1 assist) continues to improve with each game scoring his first varsity goal while fellow sophomore Brian Mahoney scored his second of the season. Kyle O'Connell chipped in with 3 assists to go along with his typical imposing presence back at the blue line. Robbie St. Germain (9 saves) and Dylan Joyce (6 saves) each allowed a goal playing 2 periods and 1 period respectively.
1/21 Varsity vs Attleboro:
Mike Pantano's first two goals of the season came just a minute apart to give the Trojans a commanding 3-0 lead just 4:31 into the game and BR cruised to a 5-0 win over Attleboro. Ryan Donovan (2 assists) had gotten the Trojans on the board just minutes earlier with an off angle shot which found a way through the goalies legs. Josh Deangilis (1 assist) scored two goals less than a minute apart in the second period to finish BR's scoring for the night. Defensemen Chris Oien and Matt Collins added assists, Collins' assist was his third in the last three games. Robbie St. Germain recorded his second shutout of the season making 16 saves along the way. JV: Scoring for B-R were: Anthony Madden, Collin Betit Ben Donovan, Matt White, and Ryan Drowne and Dan Jondrow.
1/19 Varsity vs Whitman/Hanson: T
he line of Jimmy Weldon, Ryan Donovan and Josh Deangilis each had a goal and an assist in non-league action, a 3-1 victory over Whitman-Hanson Reg. HS. Robbie St. Germain made 18 saves continuing his impressive performance as a first year starter
1/16 JV vs Abington/East Bridgewater: goals by Pat Chalmers, Mike Chipman, Colin Betit, Matt White, and Dan Jondrow(2). Chris Cote had 7 saves in the win.
1/15 JV vs Marshfield:
The Trojans long goal was scored by Matt White.
1/14 Varsity vs Barnstable:
Jimmy Weldon scored the first and the last of BR's goals to give the Trojans the 5-3 victory over OCL rival Barnstable HS 5-3. The win puts BR in the drivers seat to repeat as league champions for the first time in school history. Billy Wienstein scored two goals of his own and Ryan Donovan had the other. Josh Deangilis had 4 assists while Robbie St. Germain was solid in between the pipes again.
1/10 Varsity vs Dartmouth:
Josh Deangilis scored two goals in the last 4:55 of the game to help the Trojans put an end to their 4 game skid against OCL foe Dartmouth 5-3. Ryan Donovan tied the game earlier in the third with a slap shot just under the crossbar after a mad scramble in front of the net. Line mates Tyler Whealan and Teddy Buckley scored the other goals with Brian Mahoney assisting on both. JV vs North Attleboro: Goals by Scott Weinstein, Ben Donovan Dom Ingargiola and Ryan Drowne, Matt White and Dan Jondrow 1 assist each Austin DeAndrade 10 saves , shutout.
1/7 Varsity vs Martha's Vineyard: B-R's slide continued Wednesday afternoon losing it's 4th straight game, a 5-0 blanking by Martha's Vineyard. Dylan Joyce played well in relief of Robbie St. Germain stopping all six shots he faced over the last half of the third period. JV vs Pembroke: Sean Connelly 1 goal Austin DeAndrade in net.
1/3 Varsity vs Martha's Vineyard:
The BR Trojans traveled to Matha's Vineyard for the first of two games in a row with the non league opponent and lost 2-1. After being outplayed the first two periods BR dominated the third only to fall short in the end. Jimmy Weldon scored the only goal and Robbie St. Germain kept the Trojans in the game making 17 of his 19 saves over the first two periods.
12/29 JV vs Marshfield:
Ryan Drowne 1 goal Dillion Joyce 11 saves in net
12/227 Varsity vs Canton (Falmouth Tournament):
The Trojans lost it's second straight game in the the last round of the Cape Cod Cup to Canton HS 6-1. Adam McGrath scored the only goal, unassisted, for BR. JV vs Sandwich: Goal by Matt White Chris Cote 15 saves in net.
12/23 Varsity vs Falmouth (Falmouth Tournament):
B-R lost for the first time this season to Cape Cod Cup host Falmouth HS 1-0. Robbie St. Germain continued his stellar play in net making 18 saves. Senior captain Kyle O'Connell made his presence felt all game long with his tough physical play. The Trojans will try to bounce back Saturday afternoon when they take on Canton HS. JV vs Martha's Vineyard: Chris Cote and Austin DeAndrade split the time in net to earn the shutout. Scoring for B-R were: Ryan Drowne, Sean Connolly, Ben Donovan, Collin Bettit, and Anthony Madden.
12/20 Varsity vs Sandwich (Falmouth Tournament):
The Trojans squandered a two goal lead late in the game and had to settle for a 2-2 tie in the first round of the Cape Cod Cup hosted by Falmouth HS. Although the game goes in the MIAA books as a tie the two teams played a scoreless overtime period followed by a 5 player shoot out to decide the winner for tournament purposes. Sandwich scored the lone shoot out goal to advance.
Ryan Donavan and Adam McGrath scored for BR and Robbie St. Germain made 26 saves.

12/17 Varsity vs Stoughton:
B-R improved to 2-0 with 8-0 drubbing of non-league foe Stoughton HS. The Trojans continued their balanced offensive attack with eight different goal scorers. The first line of Jimmy Weldon, Ryan Donovan and Josh DeAngilis each scored first period goals. B-R scored four more times in the second period with Billy Weinstein, Teddy Buckley and Tyler Whealon finding the back of the net. Anthony Hardy was the other goal scorer in that period, his first varsity goal. Adam McGrath finished the scoring in the third period. Robbie St. Germain made seven saves over two periods then gave way to freshman Dylan Joyce (3 saves) for the third.
12/15 Varsity vs Silver Lake:
The Trojans started off the 2008-2009 campaign on the right foot Monday afternoon easily handing non-league rival Silver Lake a 5-1 defeat. B-R got strong goaltending from its new starter junior Robbie St. Germain (26 saves) and a balanced offensive attack with five players having a goal and an assist each. Linemates Ryan Donovan, Jimmy Weldon and Josh DeAngilis all scored in the second period after a scoreless first. Freshman Brendan Mahoney made the most of his first varsity shift setting up Donovan's goal for his first career point. B-R finished its scoring just six seconds apart in the third period when Billy Weinstein and Brian Mahoney were both set up by Adam McGrath. St. Germain lost his chance for a shutout when the Lakers scored on the powerplay with just under a minute to play. JV: The JV were leading 3 - 2 until the last 15 seconds of the game when Silver Lake tied it up. Scoring goals for B-R were: Ryan Drowne, Jonathan Hart, Matt Ives.
12/9 JV vs Silver LAke:
Goals were scored by Sean Connolly, Ben Donovan, Scott Weinstein and Steven Cooney. Chris Cote was the winning goaltender.
