Game Notes 2011 - 2012 Season
2/20 Varsity vs Canton: Brian McSherry scored an unassisted third period goal to keep B-R's hopes for post season play alive with a 3-3 tie against top ranked Division 2 Canton in the opening round of the 6th annual South of Boston Shootout. The Trojans went on to win the game in a shoot out after a 5 minute scoreless overtime period. Jon Hart and Connor Sullivan scored in the shoot out while Peter Drowne (37 saves in regulation) stopped 2 out of the 3 Bulldogs attempts to advance to play Franklin (a 5-1 winner over St. Peter Marian) in the winners bracket. Justus Daniels and John Rizzo scored the other BR goals during regulation play.
2/18 Varsity vsTaunton: Jon Hart's two goals led BR to a road win against Taunton, 3-2. Connor Sullivan scored the other Trojans goal and John Rizzo added two assists. Dylan Joyce picked up his fifth win making 13 saves.
2/14 Varsity vs Barnstable: Senior John Rizzo scored 3 times but is was not enough to overcome a strong Barnstable squad, losing 7-5 at home. Sophomores Nick Holmes and Connor Sullivan also scored for the Trojans. Freshman Justus Daniels added 3 assists, the Trojans now will need to go no worse than 3-0-1 in their last four games to make the state tournament for the 7th year in row.
2/11 Varsity vs Barnstable: Dylan Joyce suffered his first career loss in goal despite making 33 saves in a 5-2 loss at Barnstable. Jon Hart and Nick Holmes scored the Trojans goals.
2/4 Varsity vs Dartmouth: B-R improved to 3-0 in Old Colony League action and 6-7-1 overall with a 7-2 drubbing of Dartmouth 7-2. Jon Hart and Ryan Swart led the offense scoring twice each. Nick Holmes, Nick Chappell and Shawn Lynch also scored, Lynch's goal was the first of his career for the senior defenseman. Dylan Joyce stayed undefeated in goal picking up his 4th win stopping 13 shots over the first two periods. Sophomore Christian Cellini, seeing his first varsity action, was thrown right into the fire by allowing the first shot on net (a break away) to go in but then settled down stopping the next 7 shots he faced in the third period.
The Trojans have a big couple of games ahead of them playing at Barnstable Saturday 7:00 pm and again at home Tuesday the 14th also at 7:00 pm. At least a split of those two games along with a win at Taunton on Saturday February 18th would assure BR of a tournament spot by winning their league.
2/1 Varsity vs Falmouth: John Rizzo deflected home a shot from Adam Chase to give BR the lead but Falmouth scored with just 3:14 to play in the game and the Trojans had to settle for the 1-1 tie at home against rival Falmouth. Peter Drowne stopped 26 Clippers shots.
1/28 Varsity vs Taunton: Dylan Joyce's 19 saves and Mike Hiltz's first career goal helped lead BR to the 4-1 win against Taunton. Justus Daniels scored twice and Nick Holmes added the other Trojans goal.
1/22 Varsity vs St John's: Senior John Rizzo scored a power play goal and assisted on classmate Jon Hart's goal in a 7-2 loss against St. John's of Shrewsbury. Dylan Joyce made 14 saves in relief of starter Peter Drowne.
1/16 Varsity vs Pembroke: Connor Sullivan scored the lone BR goal in the 3-1 non league loss at Pembroke. Peter Drowne stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced. The loss dropped the Trojans two games below .500 to 4-6 at the halfway point of the season.
1/14 Varsity vs Dartmouth: Junior Pat McKinnon playing in just his second varsity game scored two third period goals to lead BR to an OCL victory at Dartmouth 5-1. John Rizzo and Nick Chappell had a goal and assist each and Connor Sullivan scored the other Trojans goal. Goalie Dylan Joyce improved to 2-0 making 22 saves with another solid effort between the pipes.
1/11 Varsity vs Archbishop Williams: B-R clawed back from a three goal deficit by scoring three times in less than a minute but wound up losing 7-4 to Archbishop Williams. Jon Hart, Nick Holmes and Nick Chappell scored second period goals to tie the game. Brian McSherry once again tied the game at four with a slap shot from the point early in the third but the Trojans could not find the back of the net the rest of the night.
1/7/12 Varsity vs Springfield Cathedral: Justus Daniels scored with just .8 seconds left in the first period and Connor Sullivan extended the lead to 2-0 24 seconds into the 2nd but BR could not hold on against a much deeper Springfield Cathedral squad losing 5-2 at home. Sophomore defenseman Justin Pelland earned his first varsity point assisting on Sullivan's goal.
12/30 Varsity vs Coyle Cassidy: Jon Hart's torrid start to his senior season continued against rival Coyle & Cassidy scoring twice and adding an assist in the 5-1 win. Connor Sullivan and Robert Keane had a goal and assist each (Keane's first career points) with Ryan Swart scoring also. Goalie Peter Drowne made 29 saves helping the Trojans get back to the .500 mark at 3-3.
12/28 Varsity vs Whitman/Hanson: Jon Hart scored 4 straight goals and added an assist as BR routed Whitman-Hanson on its home ice 7-2. Seniors Mike Chipman (1 assist) and John Rizzo (1 a) gave the Trojans an early 2-0 lead. Sophomore John Dray (1 a) netted his first varsity goal to finish off the scoring. Connor Sullivan (3 a) and Nick Chappell (2 a) also had multiple point nights. Goalie Dylan Joyce made 25 saves for his first win of the season.
12/21 Varsity vs Falmouth: Jon Hart scored just two minutes into the game but Trojans continued to struggle offensively getting shut down the rest of the way. Peter Drowne made 44 saves in the 4-1 non league loss at Falmouth.
12/17 Varsity vs St. Marys H.S. Lynn: Connor Sullivan gave BR a 1-0 lead on the power play about halfway through the game but were overcome by the more experienced and deeper Division 1 North power St. Mary's of Lynn, 5-1. Peter Drowne stopped 33 of 36 shots he faced giving the Trojans a chance for the big upset.
12/14 Varsity vs Duxbury: The Trojans got solid goaltending from Peter Drowne (31 saves) and a balanced scoring attack to win it's home opener 4-1 against Duxbury. Brian McSherry, Jon Hart, Nick Holmes and Justus Daniels all found the back of the net, Holmes and Daniels scoring on the power play.
12/11 Varsity vs St Peter Marian: B-R opened the season with a 5-3 loss at St. Peter Marian. Jon Hart led the offense with two goals and John Rizzo added one of his own. Connor Sullivan chipped in with two assists. Peter Drowne made 32 saves. |
