Game Notes: 2008 Season JV vs Hingham : For our second match against Hingham the JV Girl’s Lacrosse team came out victorious winning their first game of the season 16-10. Jessica Ferrigno led the attack with 5 goals and 4 draw controls. Jillian Yung followed with four goals and one draw control. Midfielder Shannon Heath came on strong with three goals and two assists, while Nicole Alfonso scored two goals and Kristen Jones and Samantha MacMillan each came up with one. Goalies Julia Coakley and Melissa Jaspon were aggressive in the net. Julia made 8 saves out of 15 shots on net, while Melissa stopped 4 out of 7 shots. Josephine Mountain, Molly Principe, Jillian McElroy, Stephanie Cicalis, Megan Gilmartin, Chloe St. Thomas, and Olivia Coakley were fierce fighting for ground balls and defending their goal. The Lady Trojans surprised their opponents with improved quickness and skill on the field and blew them away. JV vs Oliver Ames: In their second match against Oliver Ames the Lady Trojans fought hard to earn a victory and redeem their first loss. Unfortunately, the odds were not in our favor as we lost 2-17. Kristen Jones dominated in the midfield winning four draw controls and scoring one goal. Nicole Alfonso followed with a second goal. The defense, led by Josephine Mountain, Chloe St. Thomas, and Jillian McElroy worked tirelessly to protect their goalies, Julia Coakley and Melissa Jaspon. The Lady Trojans have two more chances next week to come up with a win. Come support them girls on our home field next Monday against Hingham and Tuesday against Duxbury. V vs Bishap Feehan: The girls played a tough, and much improved Feehan team the second time around, and felt the pressure of a close game for the first time this season. However, even though Bishop Feehan made a great effort until the last whistle, the Trojans were able to stay composed and finish on top, 14-10. Seniors Jessie Correia and Sarah MacLellan both finished with hattricks, and two assists each. Leigh Cattaneo finished with two goals, two assists, and two caused turnovers in the midfield. Linsdey Maloney played a great defensive game with four caused turnovers in the midfield. Jill Yung, Sarah Studley, Leslie Dias, Jess ferrigno, and Sam MacMillan all finished a goal to help the Trojans take the win. Julia Coakley had six saves on the day. V vs Silver Lake: After a loss to Oliver Ames, the Trojans bounced back gracefully the next day to beat Silver Lake away. The final score was 12-2. The Trojans did a great job passing the ball around, and was definitely a great show of the progress that the girls have made this year. Leigh Cattaneo led the Trojans in the midfield, and notched four goals for herself. Seniors Sarah MacLellan and Jessie Corriea had three and two goals respectively, while Sarah Studley, Jess ferrigno, and Sam MacMillan each finished with one goal. Leslie Dias led the assists with two, and we had six other girls assist goals, Jill Yung, Sarah Studley, Carley Roberts, Jess ferrigno, Jessie Correia, and Sam MacMillan. Julia Coakley had 7 saves on the day V vs Oliver Ames: In a disappointing, and first loss this season, Bridgewater Womens’ Vastiry Lacrosse team lost 17-7 to a strong Oliver Ames team. Although they did not come out on top, it was a great game for the Trojans. The girls were able to see a new level of competition and played a very physical game. Jess Ferrigno had another great game finishing with three goals and one assist, while Sarah MacLellan had two goals, and Jill Yung and Jessie Correia also added one each. Julia Coakley had nine saves on the game. JV vs Oliver Ames: After a long break from games due to poor weather the Lady Trojans met stiff competition by the ladies from Oliver Ames and lost 5-16. Josephine Mountain, along with Chloe St. Thomas and Jillian McElroy worked hard defending the crease helping Julia Coakley make 9 saves out of 16 shots on goal. Center, Stephanie Cicalis, achieved 4 draw controls while mid-fielders Kristen Jones, Shannon Heath, and Sarah Connelly worked hard transitioning the ball down the field and gaining groundballs. Although Oliver Ames came out strong scoring 12 goals in the first half, the Lady Trojans held them to only 4 goals in the second half. Samantha MacMillan led the attack with two goals, while Sarah Connelly, Nicole Alfonso, and Jenna Beneski all scored a goal unassisted. We look forward to our match-up against Bishop-Feehan this Thursday, May 8th. V vs Bishap Feehan: With only one ref, and a late start, the Bridgewater Raynham Lady Trojans came out victorious in their second competition as a team with a final score of 8-6 over Bishop Feehan. The team played fierce, as the Bishop Feehan team was athletic, quick, and aggressive. Leslie Dias, a senior captain, showed leadership in the midfield, also scoring one goal and scooping up three ground balls. Jess Correia and Sarah MacLellan, the other senior captians led the attack with 3 goals and one assist and two goals respectively. Freshman Jill Yung and Jess Ferrigno were also threats on attack notching two and one goals respectively. The defense was led by freshman goalie Julia Coakley, who had ten saves. Her saves allowed the Lady Trojans to transition back onto attack, and eventually pull out the win. Megan Gilmartin, Victoria Barca, and Olivia Coakley played tough defense and forced Bishop Feehan into poor shot selection. In the midfield, Sarah Studley, Sam MacMillan, Christine Hogan, Leslie Dias, Jess Ferrigno, and Leigh Cattaneo worked from start to finish. Their persistence and hard work in the midfield helped cause turnovers. The womens’ lacrosse team stands 2-0 in their first season as a Varsity program. Their next game is Wednesday afternoon at 5 pm against Plymouth North, away. JV vs Bishop Feehan: In their first home game this season the Lady Trojans lost to Bishop Feehan 5-10. Shannon Heath lead the team with 2 goals. Captains Jessica Nunes and Stephanie Cicalis along with Sarah Connelly provide one goal each, while Nicole Alfonso supported their efforts with an assist and 3 ground balls. Captain Molly Principe, Samantha MacMillan, and Kristen Jones were aggressive in obtaining ground balls in the midfield and transitioning the ball down the field. Our defense was lead by goalie Melissa Jaspon who made 10 out of 20 saves. Jillian McElroy, Chloe St. Thomas, and Josephine Mountain fought hard to keep the opposing team out of shooting territory and gain possession of the ball. All the girls gave it their all and look forward to their next game against Duxbury on 4/29. JV vs Hingham: In a very close season opener the JV Girl’s Lacrosse team lost their first game to Hingham 8-9. Jessica Ferrigno lead the attack with 5 goals and 6 draw controls. Olivia Coakley scored 2 goals, while Jillian Yung closed the gap with one. Samantha MacMillan lead the team with ground balls, winning 4, and also had one assist. Goalies Julia Coakley and Melissa Jaspon were aggressive in the net. Julia made 5 saves out of 8, while Melissa stopped 9 out of 15 shots. Josephine Mountain, Molly Principe, Kristen Jones, Stephanie Cicalis, Nicole Alfonso, and Shannon Heath all did a great job transitioning the ball down the field. All of the lady Trojans gave it their best and created a great match-up with Hingham. We look forward to turning the tables in our favor during our next meet. Come support the team this Monday 4/14 at 3:30 on our home field as both JV and Varsity compete against Bishop Feehan. V vs Silver Lake: With their first game victorious, the Bridgewater Raynham Womens’ Lacrosse team has come out on top 17-3 against Silver Lake. Except for injured players Julianne Benvie and Pam Korotsky, every team member participated in the match. Both goalies were fierce in net. Julia Coakley had 6 saves in the first half, while Melissa Jaspon had 3 in the second half. The Trojans kept the pressure on in the midfield causing many Silver Lake turnovers. Leigh Cattaneo led the team with ground balls, winning 7 and also scored 3 goals. Also with goals were freshmen Jess Ferrigno and Jill Yung, and Junior Sarah MacLellan all with hattricks. Samantha MacMillan and Jessica Correia notched two each. Christine Hogan had one goal, one assist and two ground balls. Come support the team at their next game, Friday April 4th at Marshfield high School at 4pm.
