Game Notes: 2009 Season
5/28 Varsity vs Somerset: B-R lost to Somerset 4-1 in tourny play.Down 1-0 going into the 6th inning, Alyssa McKinnon led the inning off with a single, was sacrificed to 2nd base by Alyssa Gray, and driven home by a double by Nicolle Brenza. She was stranded there after Ariel Mallia flew to right field to end the inning, In the bottom of the 6th, Somerset scored 3 times to secure the win. Audrey Dolloff ( 8 hits, 3 Ks, 3 ER ) got the loss on the mound.
Coach Comments:
After a great start ( 9-1 ), the second half was a disappointment going ( 1-9 ). Our overall record finished at ( 10-10 ). We seeded at 23 and will begin tournmanent against Somerset , 10th seed, on 5-28-09.

5/25 Varsity vs Milton:
In the consolation game we loss to Milton ( 7-3 ). Leading 3-2 going into the bottom of the 4th inning, 2 infield miscues led to 5 unearned runs being scored by Milton with 2 outs. The game was pitched well by Audrey Dolloff ( 7 hits, 2 ER, 5 Ks ) who picked up the loss. Ariel Mallia led the offense with 2 hits and 1 RBI. Nicolle Brenza was awarded the team tourny MVP award by the tournament staff, with her fine play behind the plate and at bat.
5/24 Varsity vs Cardinal Spellman:
The Lady Trojans dropped the first game to Cardinal Spellman (3-0). The losing pitcher Audrey Dolloff ( 6 Ks, 7 hits, 0 BB ) pitched well in the loss. Offensively, Emily Ryan had 2 hits. The defense led by Jenna Manning , played errrorless ball.
5/21 Varsity vs Taunton:
The Lady Trojans lost to Taunton 6-0. A frustrating loss , 3 OF errors resulted in 5 unearned runs. Audrey Dolloff ( 6 Inn., 2 Ks, 0 BB, 7 hits ) pitched well in the loss. The offensive star was Nicolle Brenza ( 3 hits ). The Trojans compete this weekend at the Spellman Memorial Day Tournament, beginning Sat.7:00 PM vs Cardinal Spellman.
5/19 Varsity vs Attleboro:
The varsity lost to Attleboro today 3-0 . Leading the offense was Jenna Manning ( 2 hits ). Picking up the loss was Kelly Macomber ( 4 INN, 1 ER, 6 hits, 3 Ks 2BB ). In relief was Audrey Dolloff ( 3 INN, 4 Ks, 2 hits, 0 R ). Our overall record dropped to 10-7, 4-3 in the OCL.
5/14 Varsity vs Barnstable:
The Lady Trojans qualified for tournmanent today by beating Barnstable 16-1. The leading hitters were Ariel Mallia ( 4 hits, 3 RBIs, 1 run ), Alyssa Gray ( 2 hits, 4 RBIs, 1 double ), Nicolle Brenza ( 2 hits, 3 runs, 1 RBI, 1 double ), Audrey Dolloff ( 2 hits, 2 RBIs, 1 double ), and Emily Ryan ( 2hits, 1 run ). Audrey Dolloff ( 5 INN., 4 Ks, 5 hits, 1 Run ) picked up her 5th win on the mound.
5/12 Varsity vs Brockton:
The Trojans lost a tough one to Brockton 4-3. Losing 2-0 going into the 6th inning, the team rallied to score 3 runs to go ahead. Brockton tied in the bottom of the 6th and went ahead on an unearned run.The girls battled back with 2 hits in the top of the 7th, but an infield ground out ended the game. Picking up the loss was Audrey Dolloff ( 4 innings, 2 Ks, 4 hits, 2 ER ). Leading the offense was Jenna Manning ( 3 hits, 1 run ), Nicolle Brenza ( 2 hits, 1 double, 1 run ), Audrey Dolloff ( 2 hits ), and Ariel Mallia ( 2 RBI double ).The defense played solid committing 1 error.
5/8 Varsity vs Dartmouth:
The Trojans overall record dropped to 9-5, and 3-2 in the OCL in our loss to Dartmouth 5-4 under the lights in Dartmouth.The team has suffered 3 ( 1 run losses ) recently. Picking up the loss was Kelly Macomber ( 1 K, 2 BB, 7 hits, 2 ER ). Leading the offense was Nicolle Brenza ( 3 hits, 1 double, 1 run, 1 RBI ), Ariel Mallia ( 1 hit, 3 RBIs ).
5/4 Varsity vs New Bedford:
Despite having 13 hits, the Trojans lost to New Bedford 7-6. Leading 6-2 in the 5th inning, 4 walks and 2 infield errors allowed 5 unanswered runs for New Bedford to secure the win. Leading the offense was Jessica Berardi ( 3 hits, 1 double ), Nicolle Brenza ( 2 hits, 1 double, 1 RBI ), and Alyssa Gray ( 2 hits, 1 double, 2 RBIs ).. Kelly Macomber ( 5-2 ) got the loss on the mound.
4/30 Varsity vs Durfee:
The Lady Trojans loss to Durfee 8-3, splitting games for the regular season. The offense was silent except for the hitting of Nicolle Brenza ( 2HRs, 3 RBIs, 2 Runs ). Audrey Dolloff ( 4-2 ) picked up the loss. JV: Freshmen: The B-R girls got their second win of the week in an offensive battle against the Hilltoppers. Mikala Murad had a great game both offensively and defensively. She was 3 for 4 and from centerfield threw out to Durfee runners trying to score from second base. Also adding to the offense Julie Kaetzer (double, single) Sara Sperber (double, single) Chelsea Flaherty (single), Nicole Urbano (single) Erica Warish (single) Kaelyn Hilliard (double) Lauren Gray (triple) Christina Wilbar (double) Courtney Soares ( 2 singles)
4/28 Varsity vs Taunton:
In OCL action the Lady Trojans lost to Taunton 6-5. Going into the 3rd inning the Trojans led 5-1, but defensive miscues led to several unearned runs. The starting pitcher Kelly Macomber ( 4.3 INN, 4 Ks, 6 hits, 3 ER ) got the loss. In relief Audrey Dolloff ( 2.6 INN, 4 Ks, 0 hits 0 runs) finished the game. Offensive leaders were Ariel Mallia ( 2 hits, 3 RBIs ), Alyssa Gray ( 2 hits, 2 runs ), and Jessica Berardi ( 2 hits). JV: Freshmen: The freshman girls suffered a touhg loss to a pwerful Taunton team. All three Trojan runs were scored in the first inning. Mikala Murad led off by beating out a slap single. Erin Walsh got on with a perfectly executed push bunt. Kaelyn Hilliard and Chelsea Flaherty both had RBI singles. Christina Wilbar and Erin Walsh both added singles later in the game.
4/27 Varsity vs Marshfield:
The Lady Trojans beat Marshfield 15-0. Audrey Dollof ( 1hit, 10 Ks, 5 BB ) had a no hitter going into the 6th inning when a triple by Marshfield ended her bid. Dolloff recorded her 4th win of the season.Offensively we had 16 hits. Leading the offense was Jessica Berardi ( 4 hits, 1 triple, 6 RBIs), Alyssa McKinnon ( 4 hits, 3 runs, 3 RBIs ), Ariel Mallia ( 2 hits, 3 runs, 1 RBI ), and Alyssa Gray ( 2 hits, 2 runs ).JV: Freshmen: The freshman girls recorded their first win of the season against Marshfield. Mikala Murad (2 singles, 2 runs scored) Erin Walsh (2 singles, run scored) Julie Kaetzer double, Erica Warish (single), Kaelyn Hilliard (double), Sam Prescott (single, run scored) Chelsea Flaherty (2 singles). The girls all played solid defense and Erica Warish pitched a strong game.
4/24 Varsity vs Attleboro:
The varsity improved their overall record to 8-1, and 3-0 in the OCL by defeating Attleboro Friday 3-0, The winning pitcher was Kelly Macomber ( 3 Ks, 4 walks, 5 hits ) in her 7 innings of work, recording her 5th win of the season. The offense was sparked by Nicolle Brenza ( 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 triple ), Ariel Mallia ( 2 hits, 1 run, 2 RBIs, 1 double), and Kelly Macomber ( 2 hits ). The defense played errorless ball recording 18 putouts in the field. Jessica Berardi made a fine play on a ground ball in the bottom of the 7th inning to preserve the shutout.JV: B-R had an impressive come from behind win including a 12 run 7th inning. Rachel McCall was impressive from the left side mixing up 4 singles on bunts slaps and swinging away, Rachel Bergeron (single triple 2 runs) Kelsey Neil ( 2 doubles, 2 singles, 3 runs) Jess Chute started off the big 7th inning that led to the win and also had single and two doubles and 4 runs scored. Kristen Maclellen (2 singles, double) Sarah Frye ( 2 singles, 2 runs) Marianne Mastrolia (single) Julie Kaetzer ( 2 singles, 2 runs) Amanda Bell (3 singles, double) Chelsea Flaherty (single) The girls also had very solid defense and all Attleboro runs were earned.
4/22 Varsity vs Durfee:
Trailing 6-4 after 4 innings, the bats came alive producing 3 runs in the 5th inning and 6 runs in the 6th inning, highlighted by a grand slam by Alyssa McKinnon which lead to a come back 13 - 6 victory. Audrey Dolloff came in to relieve Kelly Macomber in the 4th inning and pitched 4 scoreless innings to record the win. Offensively the Trojans had 17 hits and were led by ; Jessica Berardi ( 4 hits, 4 runs, 3 RBIs), Alyssa McKinnon ( 2hits, 1 HR, 5 RBIs), Haley Sarcevicz ( 2 hits, 2 RBI double ), Nicolle Brenza ( 2 hits, 3 runs ), Ariel Mallia ( 2 hits, 1 RBI ), and Alyssa Gray ( 2 hits, 2 runs). Overall record is 7-1, 2-0 in the OCL. JV: The Trojans were outhit buy the visiting Hilltoppers which proved to be the difference in the game. Leading hitters for the Trojans were Rachel Bergeron (single) Sylvester (single, run scored) Marianne Mastrolia (single), Kelsey Neil ( single, run scored) Erica Warish (single) Erin Walsh (2singles) Kelsey Neil played excellent at shortstop making many plays deep in the hole.
4/20 Varsity vs Stoughton:
The B-R Lady Trojans beat Stoughton in our second meeting , 18-2 (5 innings). Audrey Dolloff got her second win of the season carrying a one hitter into the 5th inning. She had 10 Ks, 1 BB, allowed 3 hits, and 2 earned runs. The offense pounded out 17 hits including 3 homeruns, 3 triples, and 2 doubles. Leading the hit parade was Nicolle Brenza ( 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 HR, 2 RBIs ), Alyssa Gray ( 3 hits, a grand slam, 2 runs, 4 RBIs ), Jessica Berardi ( 3 hits, 3 runs, 1 HR, 1 triple, 3 RBIs ), Haley Sarcevicz ( 3 hits, 1 run, 1 double, 1 RBI ) , and 2 RBI doubles by Ariel Mallia and Amanda Wong. Emily Ryan made the catch of the day running into the left foul line fence. JV: Rachel McCall (2 singles 1 run) Steph Sylvester (single) Sarah Frye (2 singles, 2 runs) Kristen Maclellan ( single) Erica Warsih (single, run scored) The girls played a close game through four innings but had some defensive lapses which allowed Stoughton the gain the advantage.
4/18 Varsity vs New Bedford:
The winning ways continue for B-R as they down New Bedford today 4-1. Nicolle Brenza ( 1 homerun, 1 single, 3 RBIs) was the offensive star of the game. Alyssa Gray ( 1 hit, 2 runs), Jenna Manning (1 run, 1 hit), and Amanda Wong ( RBI single) also contributed on offense. Kelly Macomber ( 7 Inn., 4 Ks, 4 hits, 1 ER ) , pitched a superb game in picking up her 4th victory. The defense was solid throughout the game , registering 2 double plays eliminating scoring threats in 2 key innings. Freshmen: The freshmen girls played their best game od the season against a strong NB pitcher. They had their best defensive game of the year against some very powerful 2-5 hitters. The outfielders had some great catches including Erin Walsh's grab close to the left field fence. The bats were a little sildent against the strong pitcher. Julie Kaetzer, Courtney Soares and Erica Warish all had singles.
4/17 Varsity vs Marshfield:
The varsity beat Marshfield today 15-0 in 5 innings. Freshman Audrey Dolloff got her first win striking out 9 batters, walking none, and allowing only one hit. Offensively we had 15 hits, including 3 homeruns over the newly installed fence.. Nicolle Brenza ( 3 runs, 3 hits, 1 double, 1 homerun, 7 RBIs), Jenna Manning ( 3 hits, 3 runs), Alyssa Gray ( 3 hits, 3 runs ), Ariel Mallia ( 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 RBI ), Haley Sarcevicz ( 1 homerun, 2 RBIs ), and Jessica Berardi ( 1 homerun, 2 RBIs ) led the way on offense. Our overall record is 4-1, and 2-0 in the OCL.
4/16 Varsity vs Barnstable:
The Lady Trojans beat Barnstable 15-6. Offensively the lady trojans pounded out 17 hits. Leading the offense was Arial Mallia( 5 hits, 2 doubles, 3 runs, 3 RBIs), Nicolle Brenza ( 3 hits, 2 doubles, 3 runs, 1 RBI), Jenna Manning ( 3 hits, 1 RBI) and Amanda Wong ( 2 hits, 1 run). Kelly Macomber got the win pitching 4 innings ( 5 hits, 1 K, 5 ER). Audrey Dolloff finished the game pitching 3 innings ( 1 hit, 4 Ks , no runs). Our overall record is 3-1, 2-0 in the OCL. JV: Freshmen:
4/14 Varsity vs Dartmouth:
In a OCL game the varsity beat Dartmouth 4-3. The winning pitcher was Kelly Macomber. She struck out 4, walked 1, and scattered 6 hits. 3 runs scored by Dartmouth were unearned due to errors.Single RBIs were knocked in by Arial Mallia ( double) and Jenna Manning ( single). Jenna Manning made 2 great plays in centerfield on a catch against the fence and throwing out a runner at the plate. Alyssa Gray had a strong game defensively at shortstop. JV: Freshmen: Julie Kaetzer scored the the Trojans lone run after she hit a single up the middle. She was than hit home when Courtney Soares pounded a double to the left field gap, but was thrown out trying to adavance to third. Erica Warish and Kailin Hilliard each added singles.
4/9 Varsity vs Brockton:
B-R lost to Brockton by the score of 5-3. The losing pitcher, freshmen Audrey Dolloff (first varsity start), had 2 strikeouts, gave up 8 hits , and 5 earned runs in her debut. Offensively we had 7 hits, led by Nicolle Brenza - 2hits and 1 RBI, Jenna Manning- 2 hits and 2 runs, RBI singles by Alyssa McKinnon and Devinn Doherty.
Special Thanks
It was the first game played by the Lady Trojans with the newly erected outfield fence in place , kindly donated by the Friends of B-R Athletics, installed by John Ralli and Jason Trout. Peter Doherty donated his time and expertise in finishing the construction of the 2 dugouts, with the building supplies donated by Dave Gray. The field looks great , thanks to all involved.
JV: The JV softball team was flawless today in their 16-0 shutout win over Brockton, playing error less ball. The girls were perfect in the field today. Rachel Cardaci picked up her second win of the season giving only three hits and fanning 6 in 5 innings work. Andrea Dolloff did well in relief, allowing one hit and two strikeouts in two innings. Rachel Bergeron led the offence with a 4 for 4 performance scoring 3 runs. Rachel McCall (3 runs) and Kristen MacLellan each had 3 hits. Jess Chute (double and triple) and Sarah Frye each had 4 rbi on the day. Every player contributed in this win. Freshmen: The freshman girls faced a powerful Brockton team. Highlights for the Trojans were Kaelyn Hilliard had a double and single and 2 of the 3 BR RBIS. Kelsey Charland and Julie Kaetzer each had singles and scored a runs. Erin Walsh played well defensively making a couple great catches in left field.
4/7 Varsity vs Stoughton:
The Lady Trojans beat Stoughton today 13-1. Kelly Macomber was the winning pitcher. She scattered 4 hits, struck out 6, walked 1, and allowed the lone earned run. Offensively the lady Trojans pounded out 20 hits. The hit leaders were Alyssa Gray- 4 hits, 3 runs, 2 doubles, and 2 RBIs. Nicolle Brenza- 4 hits, 1 double, 1 triple, and 2 RBIs. Kelly Macomber- 3 hits with 2 RBIs. Ariel Mallia had 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 double and 1 RBI. Alyssa McKinnon 2 hits, 1 triple with 1 RBI. Devinn Doherty, 2 hits and scored 2 runs. Jenna Manning had 3 RBIs. Manning in centerfield and Gray at shortstop played solid on defense. JV: The JV softball team pounded out 13 hits in the 12-6 win over Stoughton. Shaw, Frye, Mastrolia, Cogan and Bell each had multi-hit games. McCall, Bergeron, Neil and MacLellan also had strong games. Cardaci looked strong in the win giving up only 2 earned runs on 7 hits and 11 strikeouts. Freshmen: The freshman opened the season with a tough loss to Stoughton. Highlights were Mikala Murad and Erica Warish 2 singles, Sam Prescott, Julie Kaetzer, Nicole Urbano, Sara Sperber, and Courtney Soares all added singles. Erica Warish pitched very well for Trojans. The girls played as a team and very well for their first game of the season.
