Meet Notes: 2009 Season
Coaches Comments:A very good year, good luck to the Seniors. Underclassmen, lets be mentally and physically ready to compete for the winter and spring OCL championship next year. If you do not play a fall sport, I strongly suggest you go out for cross country. If anyone needs a workout please see Coach Wilcox, Coach Pacheco, Coach Delgado, or Coach Urban. Anyone interested in coming out for winter or spring track please contact Mr. Wilcox or Mr. Pacheco at the High School.
5/30 Division I State Meet:
The BR track team finished the year on a positive note, as the team had 3 top 10 finishes at D1 states at Andover High School. Sophomore Russ Bezanson took home a medal in the Javelin toss as he finished in 6th place. Junior Tom Mullen finally broke the 2:00 mark, as he posted a personal best 1:59.48, Tom finished 8th. The 4x400 team (soph. Norgaard, jr. MacDonald, soph. Delsignor, jr. Mullen) ran their second best time of the year, 3:32.03 and finished 10th overall.
5/23 South Shore Principals Meet:
In the final tune up before D1 states the B-R Trojans traveled down to Norwell and completed in the South Shore Principals Meet. Tom Mullen finished second in the 800m run, Mike Norgaard finished 3rd in the 200m and Tom Palmieri finished 5th. Brett Stewart finished 6th in the 110m hurdles. Ryan Hebard finished 2nd in the shot put, Russ Bezanson finished 5th in the Javelin and Zac Poh finished 5th in the disc. The 4x100 team (Palmieri, Stewart, Wiggins, Delsignor) finished 5th overall. The 4x400 team (Mullen, MacDonald,Norgaard, and Delsignor) won the meet with a time of 3:31.42. In Freshmen events, Rob Nee got a medal in the one mile, Nick Goodhue got a medal in the 400m and Shaquille Wiggins finished 7th in the 100m dash.
5/19 OCL Meet:
The Trojans track team had a great day at the OCL Conference Meet at Taunton High School. Dartmouth 196 BR 126 Attleboro 120 Taunton 66 Barnstable 22. BR boys finished second overall. Coach Wilcox and Coach Pacheco were very happy with teams toughness and the way they were completely focused to compete at a very high level. Leading the way for the Trojans was captain-elected for next year,Jr Tom Mullen, who dominated the 800m run with a time of 2:04.74. Soph. Brett Stewart continued to show why he was the best hurdler in the OCL, as he won the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.08. Soph Mike Norgaard pulled off an upset in the league with a surprising win in the 100m dash. Sr capt. Bob Cabral won the Triple Jump. Finishing in second place and having a great day were Sr capt. Paul Bonitto (200m),captain-elected for next year Jr Cam Macdonald (800m), Soph. Russ Bezanson (Javelin), and Sr capt Ryan Garcia (Triple Jump). Soph. Zac Poh finished 3rd overall in the Disc toss, while qualifying for D1 states. Soph. Ryan Hebard had a personal best (44-03) in the shot put and finished in 4th place and soph Tom Palmieri was 4th in the 100m dash. Soph. Andrew Kelley was 5th in the Disc and soph. Matt Wapenyi 5th in the Javelin. Jr captain-elected for next year, Marquis Marshall, was 5th in the Long Jump. Freshmen Rob Nee had a personal best in the 1 mile, running a 5:09. The 4x100 team finished in second place. Finally, the 4x400 team knocked 7 seconds off their time (3:39.8 to 3:32.11) and went toe to toe in an epic battle with Attleboro. Attleboro passed our last leg 10 m before the finish line, a great race by two all-stars Kyle Dragun (Attleboro 400m champ) and Tom Mullen ( BR 800m Champ). Good Job Boys
5/16 State Relays:
The B-R track team traveled to Andover High School for the State Relay Meet. 3 teams finished in the top 10. The Sprint Medley (400- 200-200-800) team finished 8th overall, the Disc team finished in 7th placed missing a medal by 3 inches and the Javelin team finished 6th overall and received a medal. The 4x100 team qualified for the D1 states (45.64).

5/12 vs Attleboro:
The boys track and field team ended their duel meet season with a tough lost to Attleboro High School. The meet came down to the 4x100 and 4x400 and BR lost both. The final score was 75-61. Doing well for the Trojans and coming in first place were: Russ Benzanson (Javelin), Brett Stewart (110 m Hurdles and Triple Jump), Paul Bonitto (Long Jump), and Tom Mullen (800). Cam Macdonald bumped up to the 800m and came in 2nd place with a great effort, also finishing second were Mike Norgaard (100m) and Ryan Hebard (shot put). The Trojans travel to Andover High School to compete in the State Relays on Saturday.
5/9 Durfee Invitational:
5 boys from the Bridgewater-Raynham track team competed at the Durfee Invitational Meet. The Trojans were lead by Tom Mullen who ran a personal best 2:00.03 and finished 4th overall. Senior Paul Bonitto finished 10th, just missing the finals by .03 in the 200m dash. Also qualifying for this meet were Tom Palmieri, Brett Stewart, and Cam Macdonald. Great Job
5/6 vs Taunton:
The Trojans were impressive in their 89-47 victory at Taunton against the Tigers. Multiple winners were Tom Mullen (800 M, 4x400 M), Brett Stewart (Triple Jump, 110 M High Hurdles, & 2nd place in the 400 M Hurdles), Tom Palmieri (100 M, 4x100 M), and Mike Norgaard (200 M, 4x100 M). Other winners were Ryan Hebard (Shot Put), Paul Bonitto (Long Jump, 2nd 100 M, 2nd 200 M), Marquis Marshall (Triple Jump, 2nd Long Jump), Zac Poh (Discus), Bob Cabral (400 M Hurdles, 3rd place Triple Jump). Tom Palmieri, Mike Norgaard, Josh Galindo and Shaquille Wiggins were on the winning 4x100 M relay team, while Tom Mullen, Cam McDonald, Nick Goodhue, and Doug Smith were fantastic in winning the 4x400 M relay. Other solid performers included Bob Cormier, Russel Bezanson, Kevin Bumpus, Ryan Newton, Andrew Kelley, Dan Delsignor, and Nick Marini. B-R looks to continue its winning ways when they square off with OCL foe Attleboro next Wednesday at Taunton High.
5/2 MSTCA Freshmen/Sophomore meet:
The Bridgewater-Raynham boys track team had one of their most impressive showings in while at the MSTCA Freshmen/Sophomore meet at Dennis-Yarmouth high school. Leading the way for the Trojans was Brett Stewart who finished second in the 110m Hurdles and fourth in the Triple Jump. Zac Poh had a personal best in the Disc and finished second overall. Russ Bezanson had a personal best in the Javelin throw and qualified for D1 states. Tom Palmieri finished 3rd in 100m dash, Dan Delsignor had a personal best in the 400m and finished second overall, Ryan Hebard toss the Shot 43 feet and finished second, and Andrew Kelley finished fourth overall in the Disc throw. Matt Wapenyi Finished 8th in the Javelin Throw, missing the finals by an inch. Brendan Cavallaro finished 8th in the Disc throw, missing the finals by two inches. Freshmen Rob Nee had a personal best in the Mile 5:14. and Sophomore Jeff Cooney ran hard in the 800. The Trojans loaded the bus with 8 medals in hand, 6 more than last year. Great Job Sophomores!
4/29 vs New Bedford:
Nick Marini won the Mile, Tom Mullen won the 800m, Russ Bezanson won the Javelin, Brett Stewart finished second in the 110m hurdles and second in the 400m Hurdles and Paul Bonitto finished second in the 200m.
4/22 vs Durfee:
Decimated by injuries, school vacation, and drivers ed. the boys track team almost pulled off an upset against the Durfee Hilltoppers, the Trojans lost 77 - 59. Stepping up and finish first for the Trojans were: Kevin Bumpus (Javelin), Zac Poh (Disc), Tim Demoranville (Shot Put), Paul Bonitto (200m), and Tom Mullen (800m). The 4x400 team (Macdonald, Bonitto, Mullen, Delsignor ) qualified for D1 states. Ryan Newton had a personal best in the high jump and finished 3rd. Brett Stewart had a huge day as he finished 2nd in the 110 H and 400 H and 3rd in the triple jump. Cam Macdonald and Mike Norguaard scored points for the Trojans. The next meet for the boys will be against New Bedford in New Bedford.Note, Durfee forfeited due to having an inegible runner in the meet.
4/18 Notre Dame Freshmen/Sophomore meet:
The Trojans continued to make huge strides towards the future as Brett Stewart (110 hurdles), Ryan Hebard (Shot Put), and Mike Norguaard (200m) all placed first in their events at the Notre Dame Freshmen/Sophomore meet. Also having a good day and receiving an award were Tom Palmieri (3rd in the 100m dash), and Zac Poh (4th in the Disc). Just missing out on an award were Dan Delsignor (7th place in the 400m) and Peter Callinan ( 9th in the Javelin ). Finally, the Trojans placed second overall as a team with 40 points. The next meet for B-R will be at Durfee's brand new track and field facility, on Wednesday, during April vacation.
4/15 vs Barnstable:
The Trojan boys picked up their first win of the season by defeating the Barnstable Red Raiders by the score of 107-28. Nick Marini won the mile, Ryan Hebard took first in the shot put, Ryan Newton was first in the High Jump, Kevin Bumpus won the Javelin, Bob Cormier won the discus, Paul Bonitto was best in the long jump and 200m, Cam Macdonald won the 400m, Tom Mullen was fastest in the 800m, Tom Palmieri was first in the 100m dash and Brett Stewart won the 110 hurdles. Freshmen Ryan Cooney and Ryan Putt received varsity points in the two mile as they came in 2nd and 3rd respectively
4/10 vs Brockton:
The B-R boys track team suffered a tough lost at the hands of the Brockton Boxers. Brockton outscored the Trojans 78-57. Finishing first for the Trojans were: Kyle Reid (long jump 21-7), Tom Mullen (800m), Nick Marini (2 mile), and Zac Poh (Disc). The following Trojans improved on their times from the Dartmouth meet and finished in 2nd place overall: Mike Norgaard (100m dash), Paul Bonitto (200m dash),and Bobby Cabral (400m hurdles). The next meet for the Trojans will be at Barnstable High School on Wed April 15 at 4 pm.
4/8 vs Dartmouth:
The boys track team lost to Dartmouth by the score of 75-61. Doing well for the Trojans and coming in first place were: Ryan Garcia (400m hurdles), Paul Bonitto ( 200 and Long Jump), Tom Palmieri (100), Marquis Marshall (Triple Jump), Brett Stewart (110 Hurdles). Also doing well for the Trojans and getting the team 7 points was Kyle Reid (100 2nd, Long Jump 2nd, 200 3rd). Tom Mullen ran a great time in the 800 (2:04.3) and came in 2nd place. The Trojans don't have time to rest as the team will take on Brockton High School, on Friday morning, at Taunton High Schools brand new track facility.
