Match Notes 2009 Season
11/3 Varsity vs Hanover: JV: JV BR lost their final game of the season versus Hanover High in a very exciting game Tuesday night. The scores were: 21-25, 25-22 & 21-25. Marissa Romano, Annabelle Hood & Sam Clifford had a strong net game. Again Sam Clifford & Rachel McCall were strong serving as well. Freshman: Final record was 14-2. Freshman volleyball has gone 42-5 over the past three years. This bodes well for the future of volleyball in the BR area. Final game played yesterday 11/2 was a 2-0 victory over Hanover at BR. The team was made up of outstanding freshman athletes who picked up the game quickly because of their athleticism. There accomplishments in the classroom also reflect their success on the court. Expect to see several of these players on next year's varsity.
10/29 Varsity vs Plymouth S.: JV: the JV girls won in 2 games. Annabelle Hood & Sam Clifford played strong at the net while Rachel McCall, Lauren Burgess & Anne Balaschi had big serving games.
10/28 Varsity vs Taunton: The girls lost a heartbreaker to OCL opponent Taunton on the Tigers senior night. They played 3 close sets but couldn't seem to pull off the win. The Trojans had a stronger offensive attack but the Tigers fought off their hits and that was the difference in the game. Many players contributed offesively today including, Allie Sasenick, Jess Chute (3 kills each) Steph Sylvester, Kelsey Baumgarten and Cait Davies each added a kill and Kate Bumpus led all with 6 kills. Kate Bumpus and Kelsey Baumgarten also did an excellent job setting for BR. Brooke McLaughilin, Tara Conti, Jess Chute and Steph Sylvester alll played well in the back row, it was some of the best passing done by the Trojans all season. JV: B-R JV lost to Taunton High in 3 extremely close matches on Wednesday. The scores were 19-25, 25-21 & 27-29. Annabelle Hood, Sam Clifford, Catsy Corsini & Rachel McCall had strong games. Michaela McCarthy also had an ace against Taunton. Freshman: defeated the Taunton freshman 25-23 and 25 -21.
10/26 Varsity vs Attleboro: JV: B-R JV lost to Attleboro High in 3 matches. The scores were: 27-25, 22-25 & 21-25. Freshman: Beat Attleboro at home 25-15 and 25 - 17.
10/21 Varsity vs Falmouth: The girls took one set off a tough and notoriously strong Falmouth team. This was well played match for the girls they showed ability to come from behind. Jess Chute played well offensively and defensively collecting 5 kills and 3 digs. Kate Bumpus was a triple threat for the Trojans with perfect serving including 3 aces a numver of assists and 4 kills. Alli Sasenick did another execellent job blocking the Falmouth hitters 5 times and also getting 2 kills for herself. Steph Sylvester had another solid performance with perfect serving 8 digs, a kill and a block. Daryl Medeiros and Kendra McMasters also played well for the Trojans. The girls were excited about the performance on Wednesday and are looking forward to finishing up the season with a couple wins.Scores: L 25-8 W 25-23, L25-8, L 25-18. JV: B-R JV won against Falmouth in three games on Wednesday. The scores were 25-8, 22-25 & 25-19. Captain Kim Cogan had a kill & 2 aces, Annabelle Hood had a kill & 3 aces. Rachel McCall led the team with 8 aces to help B-R to victory.Freshman: Defeated Falmouth 25-13 and 25 - 11.
10/20 Freshman vs Coyle Cassidy: Coyle scores 25 - 16 and 25 - 13.
10/19 Varsity vs Barnstable: B-R faced OCL powerhouse Barnstable on Monday. Highlights from the game were Kate Bumpus 2 blocks and an ace. Jess Chute 2 kills. JV: B-R JV lost to Barnstable in two games on Monday. The scores were: 20-25 & 16-25. Sam Clifford & Kaitlin DeRocha played well offensively while Marisa Romano & Rachel McCall played well defensively. Sam also had a big serving game with 2 aces.
Freshman: Lost to Barnstable for the second time at Barnstable 25-19 and 25-22.
10/16 Varsity vs Durfee: Despite the loss to Durfee the girls played one of thier better matches of the season. Daryl Medeiros had a great all around game with 7 digs 4 kills and greatr serving. Jess Chute also played well all around getting 2 aces , 3 kills and 6 digs. Kate Bumpus (4 kills) and Alli Sasenick ( 4 blocks, 3 kills) did a great job battling at the net.Kendra McMasters (3 kills) and
Steph Sylvester (5 digs) also played well for the Trojans. Game scores: 26-24, 25-20, 25-15. JV: B-R JV won against Durfee in an extremely exciting match on Friday. The scores were 25-16, 26-28 & 25-10. Sam Clifford had 4 big kills along with an ace & Rachel McCall serves 5 aces & no missed serves in all 3 games. Michaela McCarthy & Anne Balaschi also each has 2 aces during the match. Freshman: Beat Durfee 25-10 and 25-9.
10/14 Varsity vs Dartmouth: The girls played a much better game this time around against Dartmouth especially defensively. BR blocked the stgrong Indian hitters a total of 6 times. Daryl Medeiros 6 digs, Jess Chute 6 digs, and Steph Sylvester 4 digs added to the greast defensive effort. Morgan Fries and Jess Chute each had 2 kills for a little offensive sprak. JV: B-R JV lost to Dartmouth in 2 matches on Wednesday withthe following scores: 20-25 & 19-25. The entire team played well against Dartmouth.
10/7 Varsity vs Brockton: The BR Volleyball team lost to a strong Brockton High team Wednesday. Highlights for the match were some nice defensive digs by Kendra McMasters (7) Darly Medeiros (9) and Tara Conti (6). Also playing well defensively was Alli Sasenick with 3 big blocks against teh strong Brockton hitters. JV: B-R JV lost to Brockton in 3 matches on Wednesday. All three games were extremely close with the following scores: 22-25, 25-22 & 21-25. Sam Clifford had a big game with 3 kills, a block & an ace. Annabelle Hood had 3 kills & no missed serves. Kaitlin DeRocha had a kill & 3 aces. Freshman: The Freshman Volleyball Team had a great win at home on Wednesday against and undefeated Brockton freshman team. Scores were 25-22, 25-23 Now 6-1 next game a week from Friday against Durfee H.S. at home.
10/5 Varsity vs Plymouth N.: The varsity volleyball team got their first win in a well played match against Plymouth North. It was a total team effort and everyone played well together.After splitting the first two sets BR found themselves to be down by 7 late in the third set, but Kendra McMasters served 7 unansweredd points to get the Trojans back in the game and eventually take the win. Jess Chute ignited the Trojan offense in the fourth and final set serving 10 straight points ( 4 of which were aces) to begin the game. Other highlights from the match were Alli Sasenick's fine net play with 4 kills. Kate Bumpus while doing double duty, both setting and middle hitting collected 3 kills. Kelsey Baumgarten passed well on the defensive side for B-R. JV: won against Plymouth North in two games with the scores 25-7, 25-22. Rachel McCall had a big game with 7 aces, an assist, a kill & 2 digs. Sam Clifford served 4 aces, 3 kills & 1 dig. Annabelle Hood had 4 kills & an ace. Overall the team played their best games to date!
10/2 Varsity vs Hanover: The shorthanded BR girls played a tough match against Haover Friday night. Highlights from the match were Allison Hausen's four aces as well as two aces a piece for Kendra McMasters and Brooke Mclaughlin. Alli Sasenick had 2 kills and Kendra McMasters 3. Kayla Sullivan and Kelsey Baumgarten led the Trojan defensive efforts JV: Sam Clifford ran off 15 serves in a row in the win over Hanover. Freshman: The freshman volleyball team defeated Hanover in a close match on Friday. The scores were 25-21, 25-22 and 26-24. The next game will be wednesday at home with an excellent Brockton High school team. The team has a very respectable 5-1 record going into the Brockton contest.
9/30 Varsity vs Taunton: The Lady Trojans played a tough four sets against Taunton on Wednesday the difference in the match was Taunton outserving BR. The Trojans had their best offensive effort of the season with their most kills in a match. Kate Bumpus had 5, Darly Medeiros 4, Jess Chute 3, and Kendra McMasters 3. JV: Freshman: defeated rival 25-2 and 25-12.
9/28 Varsity vs Attleboro: JV: B-R JV won yet again versus Attleboro High School. The won in 2 out of 3 games, the scores being 25-20 & 25-18. Rachel McCall had another big game with no missed serves, 3 digs & a hit. Lauren Burgess also had no missed serves & 2 aces. Kaitlin DeRocha had 3 kills while Sam Clifford played big at the net with 2 kills & an assist.
9/25 Varsity vs Plymouth South: JV: B-R JV volleyball won a very exciting match against Plymouth South High School on Friday 9/25/09. The scores were 26-24 & 25-23. Rachel McCall led the team in all aspects of the game: 6 aces & no missed serves, 4 digs & quite a few assists. Kaitlin DeRocha also served a big game with 5 aces & had 2 kills. Freshman: Freshman volleyball defeated Plymouth South at Plymouth South 25-8, 25-11. Their record now stands at 3-1. Next game is Wednesday at home against Taunton H.S.
9/21 Varsity vs Barnstable: Despite the loss to OCL league powerhouse the Red Raiders of Barnstable the Lady Trojans played great team ball. The offense generated the most attacks of the season but the Barnstable defense played solid and had several digs. Offensively Kate Bumpus had 3 kills, Daryl Medeiros, Jess Chute and Morgan Fries all contributed a kill each. Kelsey Baumgarten was the defensive spark for the Trojans collecting 6 digs. Game scores: scores 25-5, 25-23, 25-11. JV:B-R JV lost to Barnstable in an exciting match Monday, 9/21. The scores were 17-25 & 14-25. Captain Kim Cogan & Rachel McCall served big games, each getting 4 kills. Chelsea Flaherty also played strong defense, along with 2 kills & no missed serves! Freshman: B-R girls freshman volleyball team was defeated by Barnstable freshman. Both sets were hard fought contests with Barnstable winning 25-22 and 27-25 in overtime. Next game is Friday at Plymouth South. The freshman record is now 2-1.
9/18 Varsity vs Durfee: Steph Sylvester and Kendra McMasters each had aces. Jess Chute had 2 blocks and 2 kills to lead offensively. Daryl Medeiros defenensive leader with 7 digs. Games scores: 25-29, 25-25, 25-11. JV: B-R JV volleyball beat Durfee High School two games to one. The Trojans lost their first match against Durfee 20-25 then came back & beat them in the following two games 25-17 & 25-12. Rachel McCall lead the team with 7 aces, 2 assists & a kill. Michaela McCarthy also had a strong serving game with 4 aces that helped lead the Trojans to victory. Freshman:Freshman won 2-0 scores were 25-5, 25-11. The third game was played which BR also won 27-25. Next game Monday vs powerhouse Barnstable.
9/16 Varsity vs Dartmouth: Game scores: 25-9, 25-8, 25-6. Kate Bumpus 3 kills 1 block. JV: volleyball lost yesterday to Dartmouth High School. The scores were 19-25, 22-25. Sam Clifford & Annabelle Hood played strong at the net once again while Captains Kim Cogan & Catsy Corsini had 3 aces & 2 aces, respectively & no missed serves in the whole set.
9/14 Varsity vs Falmouth: The BR volleyball squad lost their home opener to a strong Falmouth High team. Jess Chute had two serving aces for the Trojans. Kate Bumpus was the offensive leader with 6 kills Stephy Sylvester (11 digs) and Daryl Medeiros (9 digs) played excellent in the back row. Scores: 25-16, 25-19, 25-17. JV:The JVs made it two in a row with a home2 - 0 victory over Falmouth.The scores were 25-13 & 25-15. Captain Kim Cogan had 3 aces, while Lauren Burgess & Michaela McCarthy each had 2. Annabelle Hood had 4 kills & Sam Clifford had 2 kills & another big block. Freshman: Freshman girls volleyball team defeated Falmouth 2-0.
9/11 Varsity vs Plymouth North: The Trojans started off the season with a strong team effort against the Blue Eagles of Plymouth North. Jess Chute led the way with 10 serving aces and 5 kills. Kate Bumpus had 5 serving aces and 4 kills. Steph Sylvester (12 digs) Kayla Sullivan (11 digs) and Kendra McMasters (7 digs) played strong in the back row for the Trojans. The team has only 3 returning varsity players and the younger players looked strong and promising foer the season.
