Meet Notes: 2007 - 2008 Season
Janiak Freshmen/Sophomore Invitational Meet:The boys track team had a strong showing at the Janiak Freshmen/Sophomore Invitational Meet on Jan. 25, 2008 at New Bedford Voke High School. The Boys loaded the bus with 13 medals in hand. Having a great day and getting 3 medals was Jake Williams(4th in 50y dash 6.06,4th in HJ 5' 2 and 4x400). Receiving two medals on the day were Kyle Reid (4th in the 300, 4x400) and Tom Palmieri (5th in 50y dash and 4X400). Coming away with one medal on the day were, Brett Stewart (50y hurdles), Cam Macdonald (600), Nick Marini (1000 4th), Nick Barnett (1000 6th), Skylor Nelson (shot put 3rd). Joe Amrhein (10th in the 600) also received a medal because he ran 3rd leg on the 4x400 team. Mike Duran(7th in shot put 34-05) and Jeff Cooney(12th in the mile 5:32) had personal best. Also competed in the meet were Ben Clark, Brian Cohoon, Dan Delsignore, Marquis Marshall, Nick Leone, Derek Luthi, Russ Reed. Last year the team won 9 medals at this event and this year came away with 13 medals, the future looks bright for BR Boys Track.
OCL Meet: The varsity finished in third place in the OCL meet and behind Dartmouth the give them a 2 - 2 OCL record. Alex Sharp won the shot put for B-R and Jake Williams took first in the long jump. Justin Biela was second in the two-mile.
Varsity vs. Barnstable: The Trojans had another big win vs. the Barnstable Red Raiders. BR got wins from Kyle Reid( long jump), Brett Stewart( 55m hurdles), Drew Larson (600), Pat Omar ( 300), Justin Biela (1000), Colin McGrath( Mile), Alex Sharp (shot put). Finishing in second place were Bobby Cabral( hurdles) and Nick Marini(1000) and finishing in third place were Ryan Garcia (hurdles) Tom Palmieri ( 55m dash) and Joe Amrhein(1000). Bridgewater-Raynham will compete Friday Jan. 18 in the OCL Meet.
Varsity vs. Attleboro: Justin Biela got things rolling for the Trojans with a win in the mile (4:42). Drew Larson took first place in the 600(1:30.5), Pat Omar won the 300(37.6), Jake Williams crossed first in the 55m dash(7.0), Alex Sharp won the Shot put with a throw of 43-9, Steve Downie tied for first in high jump (5-5), Kyle Reid took the long jump (18-10) and the 4x400 relay team of Biela, Larson, Omar, and Matt Caliri took first with a time of 3:41.2. Senior Brad Gordon(shot put), Freshmen Brett Stewart(55m hurdles) and Tom Palmieri(55m dash) all placed second in their events and Sophomore Cam Macdonald(600) came in third with his personal best 1:37.4.
Varsity vs. Durfee: BR boys lost a tough one to Durfee, the meet came down to the 4x200 which BR lost by .5 secs. Finishing first for the Trojans were Jake Williams(55m dash), Pat Omar(300), Drew Larson(600), Justin Biela (Mile), Matt Curtis (2 mile), and the 4x400 team of Larson, Omar, Biela and Caliri.
Varsity vs New Bedford: The Trojans dropped their second straight meet vs a tough New Bedford squad. The Final Score was 56-44. Finishing first for the trojans were Pat Omar(300), Steve Downie(high jump), Kyle Reid(Long jump). Finishing second were Drew Larson(600 and long jump), Bobby Cabral(55 hurdles), Alex Sharp(Shot Put), Tom Palmieri (55 Dash), Justin Biela (2 mile). The next meet for the Boys team is friday at the Reggie Lewis Center vs. Attleboro and Durfee.
Sophomorre/Freshan Meet: 16 Freshmen and Sophomore's from the BR boys track team competed in the Red Auerbach track meet on Jan 05, 07. This Meet was held at the Reggie Lewis Center and over 1000 high school kids competed in this event from all over Massachusetts. Doing well for the mighty Trojans were Tom Pamieri (55m Dash 7.05), Jake WIlliams(7.11 55m dash and 5-03 high jump), Kyle Reid (18-04 long jump), Brett Stewart ( 9.96 55m Hurdles), Jeff Clooney ( 5:24 1 Mile), Joe Amrhein (1:42 600m), Skylor Nelson( 35-07 shot put) and the 4 X 400 team of Cam Macdonald, Kyle Reid, Jake Williams, Matt Caliri ran a time of 3:53 which placed them 14 out of 63 teams. The next meet for the Trojans will be Monday Jan 07, 07 Vs. New Bedford at Wheaton College.
Varsity vs Taunton:The B-R boys track team lost a heartbreaker to Taunton(Xcountry champs in the fall) on Tuesday December 18. The Meet came down to the last 2 events, with Taunton leading 48-42 and BR needing to win both relays, but the 4x200 team was edged out by one sec. Taunton also won the 4x400 making the final score 58-42. Performing well for the Trojans and coming away with first place wins were Justin Biela(1 mile), Pat Omar(300), Alex Sharp(shot put), Steve Downie(high jump), Drew Larson and Jake Williams finished second behind two former OCL champs in the 600 and 55. Also, Competing well for the Trojans were Colin MacGrath, Bob Cabral, and Brian Gummow. The Trojans next meet is Jan. 5 in a Freshmen/Sophmore meet.
