Match Notes 2014 - 2015 Season
1/21 Varsity vs New Bedford: The team lost another close match on the season, this time to New Bedford 42-39. After losing the opening match at 106, BR won by forfeit at 113(Rezendes) and 120(S. Farrell) and by pin at 126(Skellett) to take an 18-6 lead. NB won the next 5 matches in a row, 3 by forfeit and 2 by pin to take a 36-18 going into the final 5 matches. BR would need to win every match to take the dual. The team recorded wins at 170(Simplice) by forfeit, 182(Carreiro) by decision, and 195(Johnson) and 220(Fuller) by pin to take a 39-36 lead before coming up short in the final match at 285.
1/18 Brookline "Freshmen States" Tournament: A group of 5 freshman wrestlers traveled to a freshman tournament in Brookline. All 5 wrestlers won matches during the day. Shane Corboy(145) and James Gimler(184) both won their brackets. Dan Calabrese(120) finished in 4th place. Fran Pestana(111) lost his 1st match and then won his 2nd before dropping out of the tournament from an injury. Travis Levine(85) won his 1st match of the season winning a close 12-10 decision in his 1st bout.
1/17 Weymouth Tournament: The team had a good showing at the Weymouth Tournament finishing 3rd out of 10 teams. Both Brett Rezendes(113) and William Fuller(195) won the tournament. Dylan Carreiro(170) suffered his 1st loss of the season in the finals against Norwood. Nic Myers(145) placed 3rd, Shawn Farrell(120) and Mike Skellett(126) 4th, Anthony Farrell(106), Sindrick Simplice(160) and Zach Johnson(182) 5th, Chris Roppolo(220) and Josh Gaucher(285) 6th. Winners on the day:

1/10 Whitman/Hanson Tournament: The wrestling team attended the Whitman-Hanson Tournament where they finished 5th out of 14 teams. Dylan Carreiro(170), William Fuller(195) and Brett Rezendes(113) all won their weight classes. Dylan was voted the Outstanding Wrestler at the tournament for the second time this season. Mike Skellett(126) placed 2nd, Nic Myers(145) placed 3rd, and Anthony Farrell(106) placed 5th. In the W-H JV tournament Fran Pestana and James Gimler both won at 113 and 182. Dan Calabrese finished 4th. Winners on the day:

1/7 vs Brockton: The Trojans fell to Brockton High 38-36 in a close dual that came down to the last match. Each team won 7 of 14 matches but BR came up short in bonus points. Sophomores Brett Rezendes(120), Oliver Martiny(152), Zach Johnson(182) and senior Dylan Carreiro(170) all won their matches by pin, while junior Mike Skellett(126) and senior William Fuller(195) won close 1-point matches. Sophomore Chris Roppolo(220) won by forfeit.
JV: went 4-2 with Fran Pestana, Dan Calabrese, Brian Bettencourt, and James Gimler all winning matches.
1/3/15 Quad Meet vs North Attleboro, Plymouth South, St John's Prep, LaSalle Academy: The wrestling team traveled to a quad at North Attleboro. The team dropped three matches in row to Plymouth South 60-18, North Attleboro 48-27, and SJP 57-15 before beating LaSalle, RI 52-24. Brett Rezendes, Dylan Carreiro and William Fuller all went 4-0 on the day. In the victory over LaSalle, the Trojans got important wins from Zach Johnson, Chris Roppolo, Mike Skellett and Nic Myers. Winners on the day:

12/27-28 Marshfield Holiday Tournament: The team traveled to Marshfield for their annual Holiday Tournament and came away with 3 individual champions. The 33 team tournament is the second largest holiday tournament in New England. The Trojans placed 11th as a team with 117 points. Sophomore Brett Rezendes won the 113lbs weight class by defeating Saint John's Prep's Malcolm Mitchell in the finals by a 6-2 decision. Senior William Fuller won his 195lbs weight class with a close 1-0 decision victory over Ed Pierce of Toll Gate, RI. 170lbs senior Dylan Carreiro dominated his weight class with 4 pins to take 1st place and remain undefeated on the season at 15-0. Junior Mike Skellett placed 7th at 126lbs defeating Sharon's Tyler Jensen 5-2. Winners for the team were:

12/29 JV at Marshfield JV Tournament:A half-dozen BR wrestlers traveled to the Marshfield JV Tournament on Monday. Freshmen Dan Calabrese, Fran Pestana, James Gimler, Shane Corboy, and Josh Gaucher, and sophomores Chris Roppolo and Nic Myers all won matches over the course of the day. Nic Myers won his 145 bracket.
12/23 Varsity Quad Meet with Plymouth N., Oliver Ames, B.C. High: The team traveled to Plymouth North to face 3 southern MA teams. The Trojans lost all 3 contests against BC High 46-32, Plymouth North 57-16, and Oliver Ames 51-30. Brett Rezendes and Dylan Carreiro were both 3-0 on the day. William Fuller suffered his 1st lost of the season after wrestling up to the next weight class against Plymouth North. Winners on the day were:

JV: Freshmen Fran Pestana, Dan Calabrese and Sophomore Zach Johnson all won their JV matches.
12/20 Varsity, Marlboro Tournament: The wrestling team had a great showing at the Marlboro Tournament, finishing 3rd place out of 20 teams with 134 points, behind Triton(144) and Algonquin(174). Four Trojans made the finals and three came away with 1st place. There were five total place winners for the team. The underclassman heavy team saw wins by Anthony Farrell, Brett Rezendes, Shawn Farrell, Mike Skellett, Nic Myers, Oliver Martiny, Sindrick Simplice, Dylan Carreiro, William Fuller and Chris Roppolo. Anthony Farrell lost his 1st round match at 106lbs to the eventual tournament champion. He then recorded 2 quick pins and a major decision to reach the consolation finals where he finished 4th place. 126lb'er Mike Skellett won his 1st match by pin and then 2 close matches by decision to reach the finals. He finished 2nd after losing to Jared Durkin of Triton. Brett Rezendes wrested a total of 6 min in the 4 matches he had on the day, dominating his 113lb weight class with 4 straight pins to take a convincing 1st place. He pinned New Bedford's Cody Costa in the finals in 42 seconds. At 195lbs, William Fuller won a tough 3-1 decision in the 1st match followed by 2 pins in the quater finals and semi finals to reach the finals. He won a close 2-1 decision over New Bedford's David Watts to take 1st. At 170lbs, Dylan Carreiro recorded 3 quick pins to make the finals before having the toughest match of his season so far and the best match of the tournament against John Boyle of Titon. In the 3rd period of the match Dylan was winning 4-3 with 5 seconds left when Boyle was able to get a takedown just before going out of bounds to take a 5-4 lead with only 4 seconds left. Dylan was able to escape just to before time ran out to force overtime. In a flurry of almost takedowns, Dylan was able to throw Boyle to his back and pin him to win the match. Dylan was awarded the Outstanding Wrestler award voted by the head coaches. Both Dylan and William remain undefeated on the season.

12/17 Varsity vs Marshfield: The wrestling team won a close match against Marshfield at home. The match started at 160lbs, where Junior Sindrick Simplice got a huge major decision win. Senior Captain Dylan Carreiro followed that up with a major decision of his own at 170lbs to give BR an 8-0 lead. At 195lbs, Senior Captain William Fuller won quickly by pin to make the score 14-6 before Marshfield scored a decision and pin at 220 and 285, taking the lead 15-14. BR won the next three matches in a row with sophomores Anthony Farrell(106lbs), Shawn Farrell(113lbs), and Brett Rezendes(120lbs) winning my technical fall, forfeit, and technical fall respectively. Marshfield won by pin at 126lbs to bring the score to 30-21 in favor of BR. Junior Mike Skellett recorded a quick pin at 132lbs to make it 36-21 with three bouts remaining. Marshfield got within 9 points with a pin at 138lbs but sophomore Nic Myers secured the team win with a pin at 145lbs. Marshfield would win the final bout of the match to make the final score 42-33 BR.
JV: The JV's did well going 6-3. Freshmen Fran Pestana, Dan Calabrese, Brian Bettencourt, Shane Corboy, and sophomores Shawn Farrell and Gianni Mikulus all won their matches.
12/13 Quad Meet @ Xaverian w/Burlington, Somerset/Berkley: The wrestling team went 2-1 yesterday losing to Xaverian 42-41, and beating Sabis 42-33 and Burlington 50-27. Winners on the day were:

113: Brett Rezendes 2-1 (1 pin, 1 tech fall)
120: Shawn Farrell 2-1 (1 pin)
