Match Notes 2011 - 2012 Season
1/28 JV at Franklin JV Tournament: The B-R JV wrestlers had a successful day at Franklin High School. Sophomore Kyle Hamm won the 140-pound class besting 22 other wrestlers. After losing his first match, Sophomore Kyle Taylor won 5 consecutive matches to take 3rd place in the 160-pound class. Lastly, freshman Sean O'Reilly (140 pounds) and Junior Jake Elliot (147 pounds) reached the semi-finals in their respective weight classes.
1/25 Varsity vs New Bedford: After two long weeks, the Trojans returned to the mat against sectional opponent, the New Bedford Whalers. Despite their best efforts, the Trojans fell to the Whalers, 38-25. Because of injuries and other events, the Trojans had to insert JV wrestlers in six weight classes and forfeit another weight class. After three weight classes, the Trojans were behind 12-0. The first victory of the night for the Trojans belonged to Sophomore Evan Shockley (285 pounds). Shockley scored a reversal in the last minute of the 3rd period and successful kept his opponent on the mat for the rest of the bout in order to secure a 4-2 decision. The Trojans trailed 22-3 going into the 120-pound bout, where Junior Bo Tremouliaris scored a pin in the second period. Junior Mark Wabrek (126 pounds) followed Termouliaris's pin with a 14-6 major decision, closed the scoring gap to 22-13. After two New Bedford victories, Junior Jarek Horne (145 pounds) and Sophomore Tommy Dacey (152 pounds) responded with two thrilling pinning performance which got narrowed the Whalers' lead, 28-25 with two bouts remaining. Unfortunately, the Trojans could not pull off the miracle as the Whalers closed out the match with two victories. Of the six JV wrestlers that got called up (Faries Gray, Dylan Carreiro, Matt Williams, Kyle Taylor, Tyler Vitali and Shockley) only one was pinned, which the coaching staff considered a great display of heart.
1/21 Season Resumed with Quad Meet vs W. Agawam, Longmeadow, and Minnechaug: cancelled due to weather.

1/11 Varsity vs St John's (Shrewsbury): The Trojans traveled to St. John's Shrewsbury and earned a 45-25 victory, which pushes their season record to 7 wins and 3 losses. The biggest highlight of the match happened in the 160-pound bout, where Freshman Dylan Carreiro won his first varsity match by pinning his opponent in the 1st period. In the 106-pound bout, Junior Steve Pace made quick work of his opponent, pinning him in the 1st period. In the 120-pound bout, Junior Bo Tremouliaris ended his five-match losing streak with a 2nd period pin. In the 126-pound boat, Sophomore Greg Hollstein produced a 2nd period pin for the Trojans. In the 132-pound bout, Junior Darvin Anderson continued his winning ways with a 2nd period pin. In the 145-pound bout, Junior Jake Horne defeated his opponent with a 5-0 decision. At the 170-pound bout, Junior Aaron Conrad scored another 2nd period pin for the Trojans. In the 195-pound bout, Senior Cain Vanderbrink pinned his opponent in the 2nd period.
1/7 Varsity Quad Meet Lowell, St. John's Prep, Plymouth South: The Trojans had a rough weekend at Lowell High School. In their first match, they lost to their archival, the Plymouth South Panthers, 43-24. In their next match, they beat the Lowell Red Raiders, 40-28 and were humbled by the St. John's Prep Eagles, 55-15. The match against Lowell was quite exciting, as the match was tied at 28 with two bouts remaining. The Trojans pulled away when Pedro Ramos (285 pounds) scored a 2nd period pin despite trailing for the entire bout. Steve Pace (103 pounds) iced the victory with a 2nd period pin. It was Pace also contributed a pin to the Trojans' cause against Plymouth South. The only two Trojans to win all their matches were Aaron Conrad (160 pounds) and Darvin Anderson (138 pounds). Conrad pinned all of his opponents, extending his record to a perfect 17-0. Anderson's three victories extended his winning streak to 11 matches. Tommy Dacey (152 pounds) lost a 9-8 heartbreaker to Plymouth South's Kevin Fournier, however he responded with two victories in the proceeding matches. Greg Hollstein (126 pounds) also provided two pins for the Trojans.
1/4 Varsity vs Brockton: The Trojans got back to their winning ways, prevailing over the Brockton Boxers, 39-36. The match started with a possible preview of the sectional finals at the 138-pound weight class between Junior Darvin Anderson and Brockton's Eric Bergeron. Anderson controlled the match for the beginning and came out with a 7-2 decision. At 145 pounds, Junior Jake Horne wrestled a tough match against Jacob Wyman, whom considered Brockton's best wrestler. With one minute remaining in the match, Horne tied the match at 7, however, Wyman rallied to pick up a 12-7 victory for the Boxers. After a Brockton pin in the 152-pound class, Junior Aaron Conrad (160 pounds) earned a quick 1st period pin to knot the team score at 9. The Boxers scored a tight win at the 171-pound class. Senior Mark Guarino scored a pin to put the Trojans back in front, 15-12. The team was 21-18 after Trojans accepted a forfeit in the 195-pound class and the Boxers notched a pin in the 220-pounds. The Trojans proceeded to reel off three consecutive pins from Juniors Pedro Ramos (285 pounds), Steve Pace (103 pounds) and Jake Rezendes (113 pounds), which clinched the match in favor of the Trojans. Despite losing the team match, the Boxers continued to wrestle tough evident by ending the match with consecutive pins of their own.
12/29 JV Marshfield Holiday Tournament: Of the 25 wrestlers that the Trojans entered into the Marshfield JV Tournament, seven finished in first place. They were Junior Mark Wabrek, Junior Faries Gray, Sophomore Kyle Hamm, Junior Jake Horne, Freshman Dylan Carreiro, Junior Matt Williams and Freshman Willie Fuller.
12/27 Varsity, 27th Marshfield Holiday Tournament: The B-R Wrestling team finished in 6th place out of 32 teams in the 27th Marshfield Holiday Tournament. Junior Aaron Conrad (160 pounds) was the only Trojan to win his weight class. He won all four of his matches, including an 8-2 decision over Sliver Lake's Matt Ketchum in the final. Conrad entered the tournament as the #1 seed and the defending champion. Senior Cain Vanderbrink (195 pounds) had an exciting run to the finals where all three of his victories were decided by one point, including a 1-0 decision over Wilmington's Alex Furlong, where Vanderbrink kept his opponent on the mat for the entire 3rd period. Unfortunately, Vanderbrink was turned away in the finals by Pembroke's Rich Benoit. Junior Darvin Anderson (138 pounds) had an interesting season debut. Anderson lost his first match, then proceeded to win six consecutive matches to finish in third place. Junior Steve Pace (106 pounds) finished in fourth place. Junior Jake Rezendes (113 pounds) won his first three matches to reach the semi-finals, however he suffered an injury during the match which forced him to withdraw from the tournament. Senior Eric Wabrek (170 pounds) and sophomore Evan Shockley (285 pounds) each won three matches for the Trojans. Sophomore Kyle Taylor (182 pounds) made his varsity debut and pinned his first opponent for his first career varsity victory. The Trojans, with 155.5 points, finished behind North Andover (230.5 points), Norton (220.5 points), North Attleboro (168 points), archrival Plymouth South (163 points) and Pembroke (159 points).
12/22 vs Franklin: For the first time in nearly two and a half years, the B-R wrestling team suffered a regular-season defeat. The historic streak ended with a 36-28 defeat to perennial powerhouse, the Franklin Panthers. The Trojans fell behind early in the match, trailing 15-0 after three weight classes. Sophomore Tommy Dacey (152 pounds) got the Trojans on the board with a 6-3 decision. Junior Captain Aaron Conrad (160 pounds) earned a pin for the Trojans in the second period. Dacey and Conrad each enter the Marshfield Holiday Tournament with a perfect record. Senior Mark Guarino (182 pounds) provided the Trojans with four team points, as he defeated Ryan Ricaid by a 10-1 margin. Senior Captain Cain Vanderbrink (195 pounds) gave the Trojans a 19-18 lead after he scored a second period pin. Vanderbrink enters the Marshfield Tournament with a seven-match win streak. Franklin got the lead back with a pin at 220 pounds. Junior Heavyweight Pedro Ramos responded with a 48-second pin to put the Trojans back ahead, 25-24. The pin was the first varsity victory for Ramos. The Panthers won the next two weight classes (106 and 113 pounds) in exciting fashion, making the match score 30-25. The Trojans needed two wins in the final two weight classes, 120 pounds and 126 pounds. Junior Bo Tremouliaris did his part with a clutch 6-3 decision, however the Trojans were closed out by Franklin's Greg Williams in the final match.
12/17 Fourth Annual Marlboro Invitational Tournament: The B-R Wrestling team finished 3rd out of 17 teams at the 4th Annual Marlboro Invitational Tournament. Junior Captain Aaron Conrad (160 pounds) dominated his weight class with three pins and a technical fall as he cruised to his 3rd varsity tournament title. Senior Captain Cain Vanderbrink (195 pounds) won his first varsity tournament title, which included a convincing 12-4 decision in the finals. Junior Captain Steve Pace (106 pounds), also made his first varsity tournament final, however he could not rally from a tough first period, as he settled for 2nd place. Other place winners included Jake Rezendes (113 pounds), Bo Tremouliaris (120 pounds), Jarek Horne (145 pounds), Captain Eric Wabrek (170 pounds) and Kevin Kelly (220 pounds). All of these Trojans took 5th place in their respective weight classes. This is the first year the Trojans did not win the team title, as they finished behind Triton Regional and New Bedford. The Trojans finished with 147.5 points, while Triton finished with 150 points and New Bedford finished with 148.5 points.
12/14 vs Marshfield: The B-R Wrestling Team continued their winning ways, prevailing over the Marshfield Rams, 45-16, for their 49th consecutive regular-season win. The Trojans were led by captains Steve Pace (106 pounds) and Aaron Conrad (160 pounds) as they both pinned their opponents in dominate fashion. Sophomores Greg Hollstein (126 pounds) and Tommy Dacey (160 pounds) continue to impress the coaching staff with their exponential development. They each earned a pin for the Trojans in the first period. Also, contributing pins for the Trojans were Junior Faries Gray (132 pounds) and Senior Kevin Kelly (220 pounds). Junior Bo Tremouliaris (120 pounds) prevailed in an exciting 16-14 contest against James Garfield. Senior Captain Cain Vanderbrink (195 pounds) scored a reversal with ten seconds left in the match to provide the Trojans with a 6-4 decision. Junior Jarek Horne (145 pounds) achieved his first win of the season with a 9-2 decision.
12/10 Tri Match vs Xaverian, Somerset, Burlington: B-R Wrestling Team opened up their 2011-12 season with victories over Xavierian (39-34), Somerset (48-28) and Burlington (24-10) in their first wrestling meet of the year. Sophomore sensations Greg Hollstein (126 pounds) and Tommy Dacey (152 pounds) led the way for the Trojans, both providing three pins for the day. All three of Hollstein's pins came in the first period. Captain Aaron Conrad (160 pounds) scored three victories for the Trojans, including an overtime decision against Burlington's Luke Nigro. Captain Steve Pace (106 pounds) netted two pins for the Trojans. Senior Kevin Kelly (220 pounds) and Junior Faries Gray (132 pounds) were impressive with their pinning performances against Somerset. Seniors Mark Guarino (182 pounds) and Brian Pope (171 pounds) each achieved their first varsity victory against Burlington.
