Game Notes: 2007 - 2008 Season
Division I South Sectional Meet: The Trojans tied for second in the South Sectional meet scoring 210 points just 6 points behind winner Weymouth. B-R captured three sectional titles. Rich Wapenyi (heavy weight won in the last ten seconds of the match when he scored a take down to break a 3 - 3 tie. Brett Wyman (215) dominated his opponent winning 15 - 0 technical fall win. Tom Jones (130) gained the title when he broke a 3 - 3 tie late in the match by gaining a reversal from his back and then driving throw his opponent to getting anear pin and winning 7 - 3.
Quad Meet vs Walpole, Weymouth, Lowell: The Trojans defeated 2 out of the 3 teams in this quad meet by downing Walpole, and Weymouth. The Trojans lost to powerhose Lowell. Winning three matches each were: Matt Libby (112), Brett Wyman (215), Rich Wapeny (heavyweight). Winning two matches each were: Tom Dunphy (119), Dave Sotera (119), Mason Freitas (135), Roy Marshall (140), Steve Libby (152), Tim Kennedy (160).
vs Quincy: The Trojans notched another win by downing Quincy. Winning by pins were: Matt Libby (112), Tom Dunphy (119), Tom Jones (130) and Cody Jaramillo. Winning by decision for B-R were: Zak Hixon (125), Steve Libby (152), Tim Kennedy (160), Dave Tardiff (171), and Brett Wyman (215).
Tri Meet vs Duxbury and New Bedford: The Trojans continue their winning ways defeating Duxbury and previously unbeaten New Bedford in a tri meet. Posting wins for the Trojans were: Tom Dunphy (112), Evan Crane (119), Tom Jones (130), Mason Freitas (135), Roy Marshall (140), Steve Libby (152), Tim Kennedy (160), Dave Tardiss (171), Brett Wyman (215), Rich Wapenyi (heavyweight).
vs Taunton: The Trojans defeated OCL foe Taunton 63 - 6. Winning for the Trojans were: Matt Libby (112), Dave Sotera (119), Zach Hixon (130), Mason Freitas (135), Tom Mullen (145), Sean Quigley (152), Matt Wapenyi (171), Don Sheridan (189), Ron Mastrolia (285),Rich Wapenyi (heavyweight).
Quad Meet vs Agawam, Longmeadow, Minnechaug: the Trojan wrestlers gained three more season victories with two easy wins over Longmeadow (48 - 24) and Minnechaug (47 - 23) and a come from behind win over Agawam (39 - 32). The B-R wrestlers were missing four starters for this quad meet but still prevailed. Brett Wyman notched his 100th career victory to join four other Trojan wrestlers in the 100 win circle. Winning three matches (all by pins) in the meet were Wyman (215) , Rich Wapenyi (heavyweight), Matt Libby ((103) and by decision Zach Hixon. Double winner for B-R were: Mason Freitas (135) and Donnie Sherian (189). Single winners were: Dave Sotera (119), Mike Leon (140) by forfeit, Tom Mullen (145), Steve Libby (152), Dave Tardiff (171) and Tim Kennedy (160), Evan Crane (112), Roy Marshall (140).
vs Durfee:The Trojans continue their winning ways as Matt Libby (103), Dave Sotera, Zach Hixon, Roy Marshall (140), Tom Mullen (145),Tim Kennedy, Dave Tardiff, Brett Wyman (215), Ricjh Wapenyi (heavyweight) and Sean Quigley (152) all won to lead B-R to victory.
Quad Meet vs Springfield Catherdal, Whitman/Hanson, Boston College High: The Trojans continue their winning ways by defeating all three opponents in the quad meet. Double winners for B-R wereMatt Libby (103), Mason Freitas (135), Roy Marshall (140), Tim Kennedy (160), Dave Tardiff (171),and Bob Cormier (Heavyweight).
vs Barnstable: The wrestling team won their 12 match of the season and first OCL victory by defeating Barnstable. Winning for B-R were Matt Libby (103), Evan Crane (112), Tom Jones (130), Roy Marshall (140), Tom Mullen (152), Brett Wyman (215) and Bob Cormier (heavyweight).
Tri Meet vs Cohasset, Braintree, St. John's Prep: The Trojans won all three of the matches in this tri meet. Winning three matches each for B-R were: Matt Libby (103), Evan Crane(112), Tom Jones (130), Roy Marshall (140), Steve Libby (152), Brett Wyman (215), and Rich Wapenyi (heavyweight). Winning two matchs each were: Tim Kennedy (160), Dave Tardiff (171), Don Sheridan (189).
vs Boston Latin: The Trojan mat men dominated in the match winning 42 - 6. Matt Wapenyi (171) won his first varsity match. Also posting wins were: Roy Marshall (140), Matt Oliari (145), Steve Libby (152), and Don Sheridan (189).
Marshfield Holiday Tournament: B-R finished second out of 29 teams in the Marshfield Holiday Tournament which was held over a two day period (12/27 & 28). Rich Wapenyi placed first among all of the heavyweights to lead B-R wrestlers to the second place finish. Placing second were: Brett Wyman (215), Tom Jones (130), and Matt Libby (103). Roy Marshfield (140) finished 6th as did Dave Tardiff (171) amd Dave Sotera (119). The Trojan team had all 14 wrestlers win matches and scored points towards the second place finish.
Quad Meet vs Plymouth S., Canton and Concord N.H.: B-R won 2 out of the three matches in the Quad meet held at Franklin. Brett Wyman (215) and Rich Wapenyi (heavyweight) each won three matches and Tom Jones won (130) won two matches in the meet.
Varsity vs New Bedford: The Trojans posted 6 wins but it was enough as they lost their second meet of the year to New Bedford in a close match. Winning for B-R were: Matt Libby (103), Tom Jones (130), Roy Marshall (140), Steve Libby (152), Brett Wyman (215) and heavyweight) Rick Wapenwi.
Tri Meet vs Foxboro and Carver: The Trojans boasted their record to 5 -1 on the young season as the B-R wrestlers produced seven double winners. Posting wins for the Trojans were: Matt Libby (103), Dave Sotera (119), Tom Jones (130), Roy Marshall (140), Steve Libby (152), Dan Sheridan (189), Brett Wyman (215), and Rick Wapemyi (heavyweight).
vs Brockton: the varsity dominated the Brockton squad winning 70 - 10. Winning for the Trojans were: Matt Libby (103), Tom Jones (130), Mason Freitas (135), Tim Kennedy (160), Brett Wyman (215).
Quad Meet vs Waltham, Xaverian, Burlington: The Trojans took two matches out of three in their opening meet of the season. Triple winners for the Trojans were Matt Libby (103), Brett Wyman (215) and heavyweight Rich Wapenyi. Winning two matches for B-R were: Tom Jones (130), Roy Marshall (140), Steve Libby (152), Tim Kennedy (160) and Dave Tardiff (171).
